Maximize Revenue with Circuit Classes
Sep 20, 2019 - Sep 20, 2019

When you teach in a major city, you will encounter both limited space and high operational costs. However, many studios limit their capacity by only offering group classes utilizing one type of equipment.

For example, a typical studio may have only 4 Reformers, so they might limit their class size to 4 students for a Reformer class.

Circuit classes are an effective way to increase the number of participants per class by mixing different kinds of large equipment, so that they don’t all have to be on the same equipment at the same time.

This can be much trickier than it sounds, and will be a valuable asset to your studio. When you prepare to teach with circuits, you will need to think strategically about what equipment you will use. A well planned circuit class has many benefits for small studios.

When you learn to teach a circuit class format, you will:

  • Increase revenue for the studio
  • Increase your pay
  • Increase client satisfaction with tangible & rewarding new challenges
  • Maximize popular class times
  • Increase number of participants without increasing overhead or equipment
  • Develop your ability to multitask
  • Maintain a flexible practice that will adapt to the unpredictable ebb and flow of client attendance
  •

In this workshop, we’ll break down how to organize a circuit class with various large equipment. By the end of the workshop, you’ll be able to use our formula, and the equipment you already have, to plan circuit classes in your own studio.

This is a 2-hour workshop in which topics are presented by the Instructor Trainer, best practices are demonstrated. The workshop is interactive and assumes students have completed the Intensive Reformer Course. The first hour participants will be taken through an example of a circuit class so they can feel the workout in their own bodies. Then we’ll break down format and planning.

Learning Objectives

  1. How to plan a circuit class for maximum clarity and ease of teaching/learning;
  2. How to build a circuit program with various equipment;
  3. How to layer modification to simplify the exercise for both the teacher and student;
  4. Review best practices for instructing exercises.

Teaching Complex Reformer Exercises Workshop
Sep 22, 2019 - Sep 22, 2019

We’ve all had the experience of attempting to teach some of the more complex exercises on the Reformer only to have it end in defeat. It’s hard for the teacher because there’s so much happening at once — adjusting for correct setup, getting all the cues out, spotting for safety concerns. All while trying not to lose class momentum.

In this workshop we will break down different strategies that will help you conquer the fear of teaching challenging Reformer exercises like Short Spine, Short & Long Box, Front & Back Splits, and more. Conquering these strategies will not only help with teaching complex exercises, but will also provide you with techniques to improve your teaching across the board.

This workshop is designed for teachers already working in a studio who wish to increase their repertoire; teacher training students looking to deepen their experience with challenging exercises on the Reformer; or those preparing for their exam. It also serves as a refresher for Reformer exercises, programming, and high-level teaching skills.

It is assumed students have completed the Intensive Reformer Course.

Format

In this 2-hour workshop the Instructor Trainer presents topics, demonstrates best practices, and allows time for student practice teaching skills. The workshop is interactive.

Learning Objectives

  1. How to implement strategies for teaching complex exercises;
  2. How to break the exercise down into smaller objectives so the client feels successful;
  3. How to design programming so it develops from a modified version to the full version;
  4. How to layer modification to simplify the exercise for both the teacher and student;
  5. How to recognize safety concerns for each exercise;
  6. How to use props for tension free start positions;
  7. Review how the Basic Principles provide the necessary skills for each exercise.

Equipment used in the workshop

  • Reformer (1:3)
  • Reformer Box (1 per Reformer)
  • Maple Pole (1 per Reformer)
  • Padded Platform Extender (1 per Reformer)
  • Foam Cushion 'C' (optional)
  • Foam Cushion ‘A’ (optional)

Twist Ball Workout
Dec 6, 2019 - Dec 6, 2019

In this workshop, participants experience a fully integrated workout using the Twist Ball, an air-filled weighted workout ball. The same size and density as a larger Mini Stability Ball, the Twist Ball features a shifting center of sand and two soft foam handles. Once whole-body movement is mastered, participants can increase the variable load and challenge the connective tissue system through new creative exercises. Learn healthy load transfer strategies using drag, pick-up and toss style movements that reinforce whole-body motion, control, strength and coordination to manage acceleration and deceleration forces. Selected exercises in this workshop created by the team at Merrithew emphasize movement variables and fascial concepts.

Learning objectives

  1. Explore full-body movements that incorporate current fascial concepts related to exercise
  2. Discover how the Twist Ball can be added to increase challenge to mastered movements
  3. Develop the stability and control to manage a shifting weight in traditional and non-traditional movements
  4. Discuss how fascial system concepts can be integrated in a variety of standing and Mat-based exercises
