Vinyasa Basics
Oct 26, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021

In this shorter and more moderately paced class, we will work through the components of a typical vinyasa flow looking for opportunities to create feelings of stability and levity within the poses. This class is perfect for the new student just starting out, for returning students trying to get back into a regular practice or for the experienced yogi who is ready to take a deeper look at the fundamentals. We will move our bodies, build some strength, find a bit of balance and then relax. We may even laugh a little along the way. Come see what yoga can do for you.

This course will be offered on Tuesdays, 7:30am - 8:15am. This is an in-person class that will be held at our Jefferson School location.

The 6-week series is being offered at Pay-What-You-Can $30 - $120 per person. The value of the series is $120.

You can register online here or over the phone at (434) 218-7677.

About the Instructor: Chris began practicing yoga many years before she considered becoming a teacher. She didn’t feel that yoga came naturally to her body. She struggled to fit herself into the shapes that teachers asked her to do, but eventually she realized that wasn’t the goal. Yoga was having a positive impact on her life and health, even though she could not fathom wrapping herself into anything resembling an eight angle pose. Once that lesson was learned, her passion for yoga became unstoppable. Christine’s goal is to give her full attention to her students in each class, helping them identify the obstacles of finding freedom in their bodies.

Chair Yoga
Oct 26, 2021 - Nov 30, 2021

Think about bending to touch our toes. With tight hamstrings maybe we touch our knees. Practice soon enables more range of motion. The same is true for our airways, elastic in nature but losing their stretch ability to accommodate a fuller breath. It actually does take practice to access our full breath.

Chair yoga class challenges ourselves without getting up and down from the floor. Using the chair for both standing support and sitting we manage to stretch our entire body. The way we bend and twist lets us open different areas of the body, not only the spine to help back pain, but to support our immune system by stimulating our lymphatic system, endocrine system and digestive system. This session focuses on respiratory resilience and relieving stress. Yoga stretches come from ancient traditions. Today medical science uses the many benefits of yoga practice to lively up our inner selves.

This course will be offered on Tuesdays, 9:00am - 10:00am. This is an in-person class that will be held at our Jefferson School location.

The 6-week series is being offered at Pay-What-You-Can $30-$120 per person. The value of the series is $120.

You can register online here or over the phone at (434) 218-7677.

About the instructor: Jeanne Catherine's interest in movement and health began after resolving a chronic back injury. As a graduate from Antioch College with a BA in Theater and Dance, Jeanne explored social connection and psychological wellbeing through movement! As a mother and athlete, Jeanne has studied at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies, the Nia Technique, and Lesley University where she received an MA in Psychological Wellbeing. Jeanne continues her studies today as she pursues her Ph.D. in Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies, leads research at Three Principles Research and Consulting, and navigates parenting two fabulous teens! Jeanne has over 25 years of experience teaching and can't wait to hold a space for you to explore, discover, and heal!

About the instructor, Loring Myles: My dance began in the water. Throughout childhood and adulthood I have participated in swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, rowing and kayaking as a competitor, an instructor, as well as for pleasure. I love the experience of flow in and on the water. When I was nearly 50 I accessed my dance on land, through the discovery of Nia. Movement in the Nia class is enhanced by listening to one's own internal sensations. I have found that this mind-body connection enhances conditioning, alignment and the experience of flow through dance. This is what I would like to share with you.

Forest Therapy Walks
Nov 7, 2021 - Nov 28, 2021
Inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” forest therapy is a guided outdoor healing practice. Decades of research show that forest bathing may help reduce stress, improve attention, boost immunity, and lift mood. Each walk will be based in a different nearby forest area. These walks are not strenuous, but instead are designed to be accessible, and to guide you through a slow, contemplative and magical connection to nature. Walks will be led byTaylor Frome, Common Ground's new director and an ANFT Certified Forest Therapy Guide.

This course will be offered on Sundays, 3:00pm - 5:00pm. This is an in-person class that will be held at various parks around the Downtown Charlottesville area. Locations are TBA.

The 4-week series is being offered at Pay-What-You-Can $20-$80 per person. The value of the series is $80. This class is also being offered as a drop-in at Pay-What-You-Can $5-$20 per class. Feel free to invite a friend for a session!

You can register online here or over the phone at (434) 218-7677.

Please note: No substitutions. Cancellations for this series must be made at least 24 hours in advance of the first class; refunds will not be issued after this point. Refunds are not available for missed classes.
