Textures On Metal
May 8, 2020 - May 8, 2020

Applying texture to your metal and jewelry portrays an element that a factory-made piece can’t...it shows that is handmade by a craftsman.

Learn how to properly apply texture through stamping, hammering, rolling mill, and burs on copper and brass (or silver for purchase). Equip yourself with multiple samples of textures that you can practice and later apply to your designs. Embellishing your metal is a simple way to increase the depth and value of your designs.

You will learn and practice:

  • Stamping to perfection- Seems simple, but how can you elevate this technique? Stamping through repetition, tips to stamp in a straight line, and where to find stamps.

  • Try multiple texture hammers in the studio and find out where to source them.

  • Proper use of the rolling mill, sample multiple textures, plus rolling mill care.

  • Flex shaft use and application of several burs to apply embellishments.

  • Learn the importance and difference of annealing (heating) and work hardening your metal
