Belly Dance Toolbox Workshop

Not sure where you are in your belly dancing? Do you know if you've learned all the basic moves, and if you're executing them correctly? Are you a beginner and need to hone all the foundational moves? Or, perhaps you've been dancing a while and know your technique needs a tweak! This workshop is for you!

In these Workshops, we'll make sure to cover all the fundamental belly dance isolations and moves, and help you drill them correctly into your muscle memory.

Then we'll take your technique to the next level, by working both sides of your brain - learn and drill a combination using these moves, AND explore how to improvise with these same moves to express YOUR voice and uniqueness with all the new 'tools' in your toolbox!

Please note:

- Workshops do not need to be taken in order

- You'll get notes in each workshop with the isolations & combinations covered

- There are 8 combinations in total, each workshop will cover 2

- All levels welcome, work at your own pace

- Each workshop covers completely different techniques & unique combinations that do not overlap, so take them all and you'll have all the Tools you need!

 

Please wear fitted clothing & a hip scarf so the instructor can help correct your alignment and technique. We dance barefoot, or in dance shoes that facilitate articulation of the arch. No street shoes please on the dance floor.

Polynesian Dance Workshop

 

Back by popular demand, this workshop will cover a couple of Karen's favorite dances from: Hawaii, Do the Hula, and the Tahitian Fusion, Say Hey by Michael Franti. This fast paced workshop will focus on reviewing these choreography. Come challenge yourself and see what your hips, and hands, can do!

Hip Stars Troupe Purpose:
To strengthen our individual and collective confidence, grace, and joy, by working together to honor, share, and grow the Art of Belly Dance.

We showcase the transformative and meaningful power of belly dance to our community, there are opportunities for travel, too!

- Commitment to working on individual & collective growth & technique, in and out of rehearsal
- Positive & friendly welcoming demeanor, integrity, dedication to the group and assuming goodwill, not taking things personally
- Good sense of timing & musicality, strong isolation skills, quick learner
- Willingness to work on improvisation & choreography; solos & group numbers
- Trust in the process & in your Directors

Looking for dancers who are proficient at and would like to improve their:
- stage presence
- technique
- musicality
- improvisational skills

Be ready to:
- showcase 1:30 to 2 minute performance with your own music, in full costume & stage make up
- showcase improvisation with and without a veil (to our music) alongside others, showing your individual style and interaction with others
- learn a (very) short combination together, focusing on your own dance and as part of a group

You will receive personalized feedback from the Troupe Directors - Johanna, Karen, Kimberly & Lizza. Gain insights on and direction for your technique, choreography, stage presence and more! Be prepared within the week after the audition for a one-on-one coaching virtual session to review your dance goals and aspirations, audition results, and create a plan going forward.

Come dressed for the goddess part you want - stage ready with make up and costume. Don't worry about buying a super new costume for this event, since as Hip Stars we will purchase costumes together, but bring the best you have (or can borrow).
