Book Club: Grandmother's Secrets: The Ancient Rituals and Healing Power of Belly Dancing
Join us as we gather at the Studio for a Zoom discussion with the book's author, Dr. Rosina-Fawzia Al-Rawi, in this unique and rare opportunity! Dr. Al-Rawi holds a PhD in Islamic Studies, and has been teaching Sufism for over 25 years. Her workshops, classes and training courses are based on knowledge drawn from psychology, spirituality, cultural anthropology and medicine. They are underpinned in particular by a body of knowledge known as Sufism, which has been collected and passed down over centuries, especially in Africa, the Middle East and Asia. She will join us from Vienna where she lives.

Folk Dance for Freedom & Fun: Party & Potluck
A birthday bash for Karen, Marcy, and late summer Birthdays, filled with folk dances, flavor, and friendship!
Join us for a joyful evening of folk dancing, connection, and birthday celebrations!
We’re coming together to honor an age-old tradition—gathering in community to share movement, stories, and joy. In today’s digital world, there’s something deeply nourishing about connecting in person. The energy, the laughter, the shared rhythm—it feeds the soul.
This special night is also a celebration of summer birthdays! Karen is the co-founder of Hip Expressions and a lifelong dancer who knows folk dances from over 30 countries. Her passion for cultural expression through movement has inspired so many, and we can’t wait to celebrate her as she teaches us the vibrant dances she loves.
We’ll travel the globe through folk dances—from the spirited Filipino Tinikling to the elegant Greek Syrtos and the lively dances of Romania. No experience? No problem! Karen will guide us through each step.
In the spirit of sharing, we’ll also enjoy a potluck of international dishes. Whether you bring something or just come hungry, the focus is on connection, not perfection.
Come on your own or with loved ones—everyone is welcome. Let’s celebrate Karen, honor community, and dance like humans were meant to—together!
