Intermediate/ Advanced class for those who have been practicing alignment based yoga for a minimum of two years with a solid foundation in standing poses and want to learn to practice inversions, backbends and forward bends. In this series, students will regularly practice the preparations for headstand, handstand, shoulderstand and deeper backbends. Deeper and more detailed study of the basic asanas, including the standing poses. Students will expand their knowledge of Iyengar Yoga in a laboratory environment where we look at how the different category of poses influence one another. Bring your questions, notebooks and a sense of adventure!

Roger returns to IYCWM with his special yoga point of view – the practice of yoga informed by science. Roger Cole, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized Iyengar yoga teacher and research scientist with over 40 years experience applying science to asana and pranayama practice. He specializes in training students of all levels, from beginners to teachers, in anatomy, physiology, precise physical technique, breathing, meditation, relaxation, sleep and biological rhythms.
 
This is a 2-day workshop will explore the science behind stretching and tight muscles, and inverted poses. Roger brings his scientific acumen and many years of yoga study and practice to these topics. The workshops are for all levels of yoga practitioners.
 
Saturday, March 19
Yoga for Tight Muscles

Learn how to use physiology, neuroscience and meditative focus to release tight muscles. This class is especially good for people who feel they are not flexible enough to practice yoga, and for anyone who is frustrated by a stubborn tight muscles.
 
Sunday, March 20
Gentle Inversions and Alternatives
3:00pm - 6:00 EST
Learn how to get the benefits of inverted yoga postures by practicing science-based modified inversions or alternative poses. This class is enjoyable for all yoga practitioners, and especially good for people who have conditions that limit or contraindicate full inversion.
 
Each class pairs simple, actionable scientific explanations with plenty of Iyengar yoga practice. Valuable for all levels, from beginners to teachers. Includes a handout with written notes.
 
All registered students will get access to the recording for 2 weeks.
