The summer solstice is the longest day of the year and a time to salute and give gratitude to the sun for it’s warmth, light and energy! In yoga, the Sun is our inner light, the primal and natural force that sustains the vitality of the body and lights us up and warms us up from within. In this workshop we will learn to practice Surya Namaskar as a devotional practice to that light within ourselves by feeling it move through us, illuminating our consciousness.
Surya Namaskar is the heart and backbone of the Vinyasa yoga practice, the thread along which the entire melody of the practice is composed. Each posture is practiced with intention, purpose and meaning like a moving mantra danced together with the rhythm of the breath in a graceful flow. In this workshop, we will break down each movement through alignment and anatomy, explore transitions, play with variations and patterns of breath and movement as a complete practice cultivating strength, grace and flexibility.
We will explore all variations for all levels and break down the infamous "caturanga dandasana” , stepping and jumping backward and forward, lunge variations, cobras and upward facing dog so you develop your own practice in alignment with your anatomy. You will learn to practice Surya Namaskar with attention to the movement of the breath, and with awareness of the impact on the body and the mind. Appropriate for beginners and seasoned practitioners alike, this workshop will deepen your appreciation of Surya Namaskar, and uplift your experience and passion for your practice.
