Dive into the ocean of yoga! This training is designed for serious students who want to deepen their studies of yoga by exploring physiology, biomechanics and philosophy, and how they relate to asana practice.

Learn how to align your physical body to be healthier and more vibrant. The course discusses common yoga injuries and how to avoid them, as well as the safe practice of inversions using a sound science of progressions. Explore how to apply alignment to address specific therapeutic needs with yoga. We will delve into all asanas from the Maha Yoga Level 1 syllabus, and many continuing variations.

This course is a prerequisite for Maha’s Teacher Training. You may take it as the first step towards getting certified to teach, or on its own as a way to deepen your personal practice.

Beyond right and wrong, protocols and prescriptions, yoga points us to the field of love in which opposites are held with clarity and creative possibility. While asana instructions often seem black or white, in truth, they are a starting point for self-awareness, a springboard for self-discovery, and a means by which we can discover our needs and how best to respond. These two-hour classes with Christina Sell will offer biomechanical explanations, demonstrations, modifications, hip and heart opening postures, bad jokes, and inspirational pep talks to help you gain sensitivity and discernment in your practice.

Christina Sell has been practicing yoga since 1991 and teaching since 1998. Author of three books on yoga and body image, Christina is known for her passion, creativity, and down-to-earth teaching style. Her classes are fun, inspiring, and aimed at helping people of all sizes, shapes, and abilities experience the joy of yoga. She currently resides in Buena Vista, CO with her husband, two affectionate cats, and the world's best dog, Locket.

The word “yoga” has a long and storied history as it moves through the original sources in Sanskrit and other south Asian languages. From its first appearance in the ancient Rg Veda, “yoga” is used in diverse and complex ways to describe concepts, values, practices, and traditions of interpretation. We’re going to start from the beginning and create a basic “canon” of the yoga tradition, not only listing and describing the sources of yoga but comparing interpretations and sources to other sources.

We need to bring the complexity and diversity of traditions into focus and present a picture of history and context that takes us from Rg Veda to the Tantras and into modernity. This work is not only foundational to any student of yoga but deeply revealing of the continued relevance of yoga as it morphs and evolves into our own experiences. No previous experience is expected or required. Bring an open mind and a willing heart.

-Progressive science of teaching inversions, from addressing raw beginners to advanced practitioners.
