New Moon SoulCollage®️ with Natalie Miller
Jun 1, 2019 - Dec 21, 2019

When the sun and moon conjoin in the sky, our nights are dark and starry. Tradition says this is a perfect time to pause, self-reflect, listen deep within, and set intuitive intentions for our best way forward.

Join Natalie to practice SoulCollage®, a creative and intuitive process through which we invite our minds to listen to the embodied wisdom of our hearts and guts. SoulCollage® is excellent for strengthening our ability to listen in, and for integrating the various aspects of ourselves.

In each workshop, we’ll explore the astrological themes of the particular month’s New Moon, then create a meaningful and beautiful SoulCollage®. We’ll leave with deeply-seeded, soul-felt intention for the next lunar cycle.

Everybody welcome - no matter how creative/artistic you believe you are - and all materials for your first session are provided.

Course In Miracles Book Club
Aug 13, 2019 - Dec 31, 2019

The Course In Miracles is self-study spiritual text that teaches that the way to love and inner peace is through forgiveness. Even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it expresses a non-sectarian, non-denominational spirituality. A Course in Miracles is therefore a universal spiritual teaching, not a religion. The Course states that “its goal for you is happiness and peace.” The text also explains the basis for fear and guilt, and how they can be overcome thought miracles, which are defined as the maximal “expressions of love.” The miracle is defined as the shift in perception from fear to love. Questioning our current beliefs, understanding we see the world through the filter of our own perceptions and that our emotions are always a result of fear or love are core concepts examined by the course. The language of the Course is often difficult for many to understand and so for this class we will start with the book Journey Beyond Words by Brent Haskell. This book brings a new and refreshing simplicity to many of the seemly difficult concepts of the Course. We will meet every other Monday and the only needed material is the Journey Beyond Words book. You can purchase the book on Amazon is the paperback or kindle version.

There is no cost for the class instead a donation of $5-10 per class is appreciated. All the funds will go to Charity Water https://www.charitywater.org/.

charity: water is a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

The founder Scott Harrison shows how changing your mindset can change not only your life. Watch the video on how Scott began the organization here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE9UvT5ujyg.

The class will be facilitated by Lynette Sprowls, a student of the Course In Miracles.

The class will be held every other Monday.

This 90-minute luxuriously relaxing practice is the ideal complement to today’s hectic lifestyle. This allows the body to relax so you can receive the benefits of the poses without any effort on your part. You’ll remain in the poses for 7-10+ minutes so you can unwind and enter a deep state of rest. The practice concludes with Yoga Nidra (or Yogic Sleep), a 25-minute guided meditation in Savasana (final relaxation). You will discover a new-found sense of peace and healing.

No F$cks Floorwork
Aug 25, 2019 - Aug 25, 2019

F*$ck the floor like never before. Want to get out of your comfort zone and grow? This is the place to be, on your knees on the floor. One of the things that make AMD so great when performing she has the ability to let go of what anyone thinks at any given time. To push boundaries and make her audience feel ever so slightly (or very, if she’s lucky) uncomfortable. This type of movement is not only freeing, but gives you a sense of calm in every day situations when things are uncomfortable, because yasss, it all translates and is connected. So let’s grab some ass, flick some pussy juice and learn how to draw them all in with your just a look as you f$ck the floor before their very eyes.

The physical side of this workshop will be followed by a 30 minute oration section about truly not giving a f$ck, about letting go of looking good for others. How to truly love your body, even when it changes on you suddenly and without your permission. AMD has first hand knowledge on how to conquer fears, doubt and dislike for your body if and when it changes on you in a moments notice.

How To Teach Mindful Vinyasa Flow with Francesca Cervero
Sep 7, 2019 - Sep 8, 2019

This training is for teachers whose initial trainings were in a style other than vinyasa yoga, but find they are gravitating towards towards teaching that style and want to learn a framework that allows them to teach vinyasa yoga more skillfully. The training will help hatha teachers bring more movement to their teaching, and will help vinyasa teachers bring more teaching into their movement.

Part 1
We will cover what is at the heart of a vinyasa yoga class, how to set a clear metronome, and how to cue breath in a supportive, not restrictive way. We will also have a short practice and begin to learn some vinyasa templates to make incorporating this style into your teaching more seamless.

Part 2
Part 2 will build on Part 1 and will cover different kinds of sequencing and how to offer modifications and variations within the context of movement. Teachers will also have an opportunity to practice teaching this style and build on the templates we learned in Part 1.

Angel Time with B
Sep 14, 2019 - Sep 14, 2019

Come join together, in a safe and loving environment, to offer and to receive messages from the angels.

We will open by setting our focus, and calling in our Angels. Names are drawn to determine who will receive messages, and who will assist in sharing messages. If you have your own cards, feel free to bring them with you, or choose from available decks provided. B will call in the individual's Angels, and share messages, and will also provide guidance and assistance for group members sharing messages.

Beth Carleton, simply known as “B”, is an Ordained Angel Minister, ANGEL THERAPY PRACTITIONER ®, Certified Angel Messenger, Reiki Master and author. She delivers angel messages for clients throughout the world in person, via telephone, and Skype and now as a guest presenter at My BodYoga. I met B last year, she literally has a waiting list of about a months to a year. My experience has been so surreal, because she immediately can see angels, and calls them by name. Since then, I have had Angel Time with B at social gatherings, with fascination of what transpires, I'm so drawn in. I am still amazed how information shared is so on point and personal that no one could ever know, well, except for our guardian angles.
B's angels have been guiding her, showing her the way all along, while blossoming her connection with the omnipresent essence of angelic beings. She wants us to encourage us to connect and create with our angels as well. We are guided and protected and so very loved.
I can't even begin to explain or share her touching and beautiful real life story of how she was healed from a brain tumor as she tells it so eloquently. It was her angels who appeared to her, to deliver her a message of her healing and the journey begins. She took this experience to heart and soul, the healing was revealed and a miracle had been witnessed by herself, her family and the medical world. A team of physicians just in amazement to this unexplainable medical phenomenon, she then began to be guided onto this path of encouraging others with love and kindness to carry out the work, her angels had called her to do.

Cost is $20. Attendance for this event is limited to 11 individuals.

Bandhas & Breath Workshop
Learn to initiate all movement from the navel. Your yoga practice will begin to blossom into the understanding that the energetic lock points deep within the body. Often after being certified in Reiki people are unsure of how to work with the energy and are looking for further guidance and growth before moving to the next level. This workshop is a loving space for you to learn while building confidence and asking questions to deepen your energy practice.

Each level of reiki builds on one another, proficiency is developed through practice on oneself as well as others. To strength and understand your energy you need to practice and use it. Here are some of the topics that will be covered, however, we want this to be an interactive workshop that is led by the needs of the participants.

  • Understanding the new sensations of Reiki energy in your body and those around you.
  • Understanding the essence of and how to apply the symbols given through the attunements (for level 2).

Reiki Level 2 Certification
Sep 29, 2019 - Sep 29, 2019

Join Lynette Sprowls for Reiki Level 2 training in the Usui Reiki system. This next step of your Reiki journey will build on to the Reiki 1 (which is a prerequisite).

When you are attuned to Reiki Level 2, you become more aware of the importance of your connected wholeness on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual; wholeness and balanced health become synonymous.

Attunement to Reiki Level 2 opens your heart chakra, which is the mid-point and connector between the physical and spiritual or universal realms. Once your heart chakra opens, your intuition increases and your sensitivity to subtle energies are heightened.

Your desire to become attuned to Reiki Level 2 will happen when you are ready to move further into the deeper dimensions of healing with Reiki such as….. Distant/absentee healing
Healing deeper traumas
Healing crises
Healing relationships
Healing situations (personal or global)
Healing situations from the past, present or the future

Upon receiving 2nd level attunement, you will learn the three sacred symbols, their form, their sound, and their meaning, which will enable you to consciously direct Reiki energy through your mind (calling the energy) to achieve specific results. The practice of healing through 2nd degree can be profound, as it is considered a quantum leap forward on your spiritual path, indicating your soul’s desire to be of service to others through sharing unconditional love.

What is an Attunement? In Japanese, this ceremony is called Reiju (pronounced Ray-joo) and translated, it means spiritual energy blessing. In a modern-day ceremony, your body moves into a spiritual state (or universal energy state) through the use of ancient sounds or symbols, which harmonize your mental and emotional bodies, plus also aligns your spiritual essence within to re-connect you to your true “self” (or your soul). The attunement also clears your meridians (energy pathways) throughout your body to allow Ki energy to flow freely.

The Reiki Master Teacher does not have any special powers to pass along but merely acts as a channel to provide or create a safe place for you to draw in Ki energy, thus allowing you to connect universal life force energy (or Source) to your inner self or soul. You will draw Ki energy to the level where you specifically need it – mental, emotional, physical or spiritual levels By receiving attunement at each Reiki level, you accept universal blessings to support your journey of self-responsibility for your own spiritual progress.

Your success for your personal journey depends entirely on how much time and effort you are willing to apply; the more effort you make, the more blessings you receive. The main purpose of an attunement is to raise your energy level, plus strengthen your connection to universal spiritual energy.

Course includes:
-Class manual
-Class certificate

The class is a combination of lecture, discussion, and experience. Practice time includes giving and receiving a complete Reiki treatment using all the hand positions, the self -treatment, practice using all the level 2 symbols and learning how to do the long-distant healing.

There is a minimum of 2 people registered needed or the class will be rescheduled.

Divine Feminine Ceremony
Oct 4, 2019 - Oct 4, 2019

Divine Feminine Ceremony
Diving into our highest awareness and creative potential as we achieve balance between two sides of ourselves. "Consciousness is basically divided up into the ‘masculine’ side and the ‘feminine’ side, the Divine Feminine represents the connection to the part of your consciousness responsible for nurture, intuition, and empathy, regardless of your gender.

Women have this sacred bond as soul sisters and an unspoken intuition to nurture our souls, create, and connect with that feminine energy within ourselves and others to fuel us into the divine energy that we thrive in. This ‘Divine Goddess Circle’ signifies clearing space so we can bring in what lights us up and inspires us. We will give thanks for all who show up in the circle. We will practice several heart opening rituals that ignite the fire within us. This circle is a sharing circle as we hold space for one another in confidence as we trust in our sisterhood to support us in the ritual of release we will share together. The sealing of our confidence and connection brings us to end with overflowing gratitude. Back in the day when we were surrounded by our tribe, women worked together. Nowadays one is perceived to go at it alone. And you may notice that if you go weeks without seeing your soul sistas, you feel off. Our hope is to create a safe space for our divine feminine to feel empowered.
Everyone leaves with a healing crystal that is infused with the collective energy of the group. -Bring your own crystals -Bring your sage -Bring your essential oils

Whether we are able to learn and grow as we meet these challenges or feel victimized by circumstances beyond our control may rest largely on the way we treat ourselves in the process. In this workshop, we will look at how strategic self-care can play a game-changing role in our ability to thrive and be flexible with what life brings. The heart of the workshop will be experiential practice of a variety of essential self-care practices that research shows to promote resilience.

No prior yoga or meditation experience required.

Moving Well with a Healthy Spine and Joints with Maria Hamburger
Oct 13, 2019 - Oct 13, 2019

A healthy spine is a fluidly moving one. In this workshop, we will learn how to access the different sections of the spine to move with more freedom, support and comfort. Articulation of each segment of the spine is the first step to engaging and strengthening the core stomach muscles that in turn support the vertical column that is critical to moving well through life.

We will also address joint stability and mobility through controlled articular rotation (CARS). This is an efficient and healthy system for bringing active rotational movement to all the joints in the body. In our daily lives, we tend to limit our joint mobility, leaving gaps and weakening unused portions of our joints. Through the mindful rotation of our joints, we will build greater joint health and overall movement facility.

Angel Time with B
Oct 19, 2019 - Oct 19, 2019

Autumn Harvest Workshop: Yoga, Qi Gong, & Meditation with James Foulkes
Oct 26, 2019 - Oct 26, 2019

As we enter Autumn, we harvest the growth of Spring and Summer and, like the trees, bring our energy inward to lighten up and release old leaves we no longer need.

Autumn is the most potent season for intuition and vision and is associated with the Metal Element in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). In this workshop, we will focus on rejuvenating and invigorating the Organs and Meridians (energy channels) of the Metal Element - the Lungs and Intestines and the transmutation of their negative emotional characteristics.

The Metal energy of Autumn is an expression of new Yin. We will balance the Yin nature of gentle, cleansing asana stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang practices, whilst using meditation, journeying, and deep inward listening to open to our intuitive gifts.

Students of all levels welcome. In Silver Spring.

The Next Evolution of Vinyasa Yoga with Jason Crandell
Nov 1, 2019 - Nov 3, 2019

The Next Evolution of Vinyasa Yoga

As a longtime student and teacher, I’m committed to making the common sense upgrades to Vinyasa Yoga that will keep it safe, effective, and relevant for modern students. As a teacher, I’m committed to stepping back from my work, evaluating what I believe is effective and changing what can be improved. I’m committed to teaching the essence of the Yoga Tradition, while modernizing the biomechanics and language of this timeless tradition.

I’ve had the distinct privilege of studying with gifted, traditional teachers of various schools of yoga. I’ve also been influenced by my students, especially those that are Doctors of Sports Medicine, Physical Therapists, Orthopedic Surgeons, and Olympic Trainers. My goal is to retain the essence of yoga in my classes, while staying up-to-date with how other disciplines work intelligently with the body. I believe in the power and poignancy of traditional forms of vinyasa yoga. I also believe all systems need to make occasional bug fixes and software updates so that they continue to work for many years to come.

This weekend workshop series is dedicated to making all of the minor changes, updates, and upgrades that I believe will make your Vinyasa yoga practice a sustainable, transformative practice for decades to come. This program is the culmination of over 20-years of practicing, making mistakes, making revisions, and separating what I believe is truly useful from what is extraneous. It’s also the beginning of an updated, comprehensive method for moving our flow forward.

Rethinking Salutations and Standing Flows (Fri, Nov 1: 6–8:30p)

Salutations and standing-pose flows are the centerpiece of vinyasa yoga. They establish the pace of class and help maintain the dynamic experience until Savasana. Until now, vinyasa classes have been overly dependent on Surya Namaskar A and B. Similarly, classes over rely on Chaturanga to maintain intensity. While these Salutations are still worthy, it’s time to step back and realize that we have many other options to maintain flow—some that are even better tailored for modern practitioners. Moving forward, we need fewer chaturangas and other types of vinyasas that strengthen other regions of the body. We need to re-evaluate the hyper-speed pace of today’s flow classes and return to a pace that prioritizes skillful movement, mindful focus, and deep breathing. We need to standing pose combinations that strengthen and mobilize the entire hip circumference instead of overstressing the hamstrings and Sacro-Illiac joint. We need to take the essence of vinyasa yoga and give it the modern software updates that will make it even more safe and effective for the next generation.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Take back the currently frenetic pace of vinyasa by synchronizing your movements with deep, rhythmic ujaayi breathing. You will work hard, but your breath will never be rushed.
  • Learn Sun Salutations that complement Surya Namaskar “A” & “B” and are better tailored for modern practitioners. These salutations produce less repetitive stress on the hamstrings, SI joint, wrists and shoulders, while creating greater flexibility in the front of the hips and strength in the spine.
  • Strong, powerful vinyasa linkages other than Chatturanga and Up Dog. These vinyasas complement Chaturanga and Up Dog by producing less repetitive stress in the shoulders and more balanced, functional strength throughout the body.
  • Standing pose combinations that produce balanced strength and flexibility in the entire hip-joint, instead of simply combinations that chronically over-stress the hamstrings and SI-region.
  •

A Modern Approach to the Core & Bandhas (Sat, Nov 2: 1–3:30p)

The traditional bandha system, designed to create and direct the body’s innate resources, is beautiful and sophisticated. Unfortunately, the language that is used to teach the bandhas can be arcane and confusing. This practice bridges the Traditional teachings of yoga’s primary Bandhas with a modern understanding of core and spine. It demystifies the Bandhas and provides you with a clear, modern understanding of how to work from your center. This understanding will help you strengthen your core, stabilize your spine, and improve every category of yoga posture, including your twists, forward bends and arm balances.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Unpack and demystify the language of the Bandhas. You’ll learn about the Traditional teachings of these actions in order to evaluate them in a modern context.
  • Experience a modern approach to the Bandhas that helps strengthen your core, stabilize your spine, and improve your breathing.
  • Update your understanding of traditional teachings with a modern understanding of the core and spine.
  • Deepen every posture category, including twists, forward bends, and arm balances.
  •

Reformatting the Flow for Our Shoulders and Wrists (Sat, Nov 2: 4:30–7p)

The longer I’ve practiced vinyasa yoga, the more I’ve realized that the practice is imperfect for our shoulders and wrists. There is an excess of arm-overhead postures like Down Dog and arms in a forward position like plank and chaturanga. Even more, there’s an insufficient degree of postures that extend the shoulder joint and produce scapular strength and stability. But, all is not lost. Vinyasa yoga is still remarkably effective and saving our shoulders and wrists by updating our sequencing and technique is simple and straightforward.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Strengthen the entire shoulder girdle and cultivate greater balance in your shoulders, neck and upper back.
  • Learn to decrease the excessive movements that Vinyasa yoga asks of our shoulders and wrists. Similarly, you will integrate more postures that most vinyasa yoga sequences ignores, thereby creating greater stability in your shoulder joints.
  • Identify key techniques in all weight bearing postures that will decrease repetitive stress in your shoulders and wrists
  • Create balanced range of motion in your entire shoulder girdle.
  • Updated your understanding of best practices for shoulder and wrist health in contemporary vinyasa yoga.
  •

A New, Balanced Approach to the Hips (Sun, Nov 3: 1–3:30p)

Traditional vinyasa yoga schools are powerful and poignant. And, like all systems, we need to upgrade the operating software and fix the bugs that show up after years of use. Since traditional styles of vinyasa yoga are heavily skewed toward forward bending, revise these practices for a more balanced approach to the hip socket will be helpful for modern students. For example, traditional sequencing stretches the hamstrings exponentially more than the adductors, hip-flexors and external rotators. Similarly, traditional sequencing stretches the hamstrings multiples of what it strengthens the hamstrings. Since most modern practitioners spend a ton of time in chairs, we need the opposite of this approach to the hips: we need much more hamstring and gluteal strengthening to go with our hamstring stretching; we also need to spend more time addressing tightness in the hip-flexors, outer-hips and adductors.

In this workshop, you will:

  • Learn what parts of the hip need the greatest attention for modern practitioners that spend an inordinate amount of time in chairs.
  • Establish an updated approach to vinyasa yoga that strengthens, stabilizes and stretches the entire hip socket in balanced way.
  • Create greater range of motion in the entire hip joint while giving your poor hamstrings a break.
  • Make progress on postures that demanding of the hip-joint such as Padmasana and Hanumanasana.

Mastering the Art of Yoga Sequencing with Jason Crandell

3 Day Teacher Development + Inspiration Program

WHY I CREATED THIS TRAINING

Having trained hundreds of teachers over the course of nearly two decades, the most common challenges that I see teachers struggle with involve sequencing—and, each of these problems eventually leads to burnout. The first challenge is that many teachers haven’t learned to properly sequence in their foundational program. They’ve learned to memorize and teach a sequence, but they haven’t learned how to construct their own sequences in a logical, progressive way. The second challenge is when teachers burn themselves out by constantly creating new sequences from week-to-week, or day-to-day. In this scenario, teachers often stress themselves out by putting pressure on themselves to constantly create new and different combinations—often at the expense of being consistent with their students. The last sequencing struggle that leads to burnout is when teachers don’t completely understand the anatomical foundations for safe, successful, productive sequencing.

I created this program from years of experience to solve all of these challenges—and, to you create authentic, effective, logical sequences that make a positive impact in the lives of your students.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS TRAINING

This program will provide you with the tools to develop meaningful, authentic and effective sequences for your classes and personal practice. It will provide you with the knowledge, inspiration and technique to generate fresh, safe sequences that represent your voice and vision as a teacher. You will learn the anatomical rationale that underscores safe, effective sequencing for every postural category. You’ll minimize burnout and ensure that you have a larger, more consistent student population by avoiding the most common sequencing challenges that teachers face.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT EACH DAY OF THE TRAINING

You will get plenty of practice during this training. Each day starts with seated meditation followed by an accessible, hands-on anatomy discussion that illuminates the sequencing topic of the day. Then, you’ll launch into a strong, 2-hr vinyasa practice that explores the anatomy and sequencing concepts of the day. In the afternoon, you’ll break down the anatomical details further while discussing the sequencing principles for each of the postural categories listed in the paragraph above. Each afternoon will conclude with another, shorter practice that illustrates the sequencing topic of the day.

THE TOPICS COVERED IN THIS PROGRAM

This program covers every aspect of sequencing, including the anatomical rationale that underscores safe and compelling sequences. This program covers the following topics:

DAY 1: Sequencing with Authenticity and Purpose
DAY 2: Turning Inward: Sequencing for Safe, Effective Forward Bends
Creating Space and Freedom: Sequencing for Efficient Backbends
DAY 3: Releasing Tension: Sequencing for Cleansing Twists
Taking Flight: Sequencing for Strong, Stable Arm Balances

Kettlebell Turkish Get Up with Marvin King
Nov 16, 2019 - Nov 16, 2019

The Kettlebell Turkish Get Up (TGU) is a formidable exercise and arguably the best tool in the Kettlebell arsenal for developing strength from the ground up. By comparison the Kettlebell 2ARM Swing is a Yang exercise when the TGU is a Yin exercise. So when done at Tai Chi speed (perfect for Yoga students) the TGU will challenge and stimulate all your muscle groups at the same time. Muscle balance, muscle symmetry, and overall muscle tone are some phenomenal benefits from doing the TGU. But even more important are the proprioception awareness and anti aging benefits that are developed by adding this technique to your strength tool box! For those kinesiology experts, the TGU stimulates and strengthened your bodies kinetic chain by connecting and balancing the large and small muscle groups. This systemic development is what helps you move with coordination, power, and grace!I can go on but why?

Come learn the proper way to do this incredible exercise (TGU) and become a better person for doing so!

Sattva Yoga Workshop
Nov 17, 2019 - Nov 17, 2019

Sattva Yoga is an integrated practice of Yoga, which comes from Kriya Yoga from the Babaji Lineage of Paramahansa Yogananda, through Anand Mehrotra. In Sanskrit, “sattva” means lucidity, lightness, happiness, tranquility, and non-attachment. Kriya means action that leads us to evolution, expansion, and liberation. In Sanskrit, Kri means action, to do; and ya is another name for Atman, or Soul. Kriya is a Himalayan Kundalini technique or action designed to create an evolutionary response. The purpose of kriya is to get access to deeper states of shunya, or unity consciousness. Kriyas work to generate electricity by combining repetitive movements and mantras to create a moving meditation. This movement of electricity helps to awaken and transform ones' energy to create a physical, psychological, and spiritual shift in one's being. Kriyas can prevent injuries and assist in healing at the cellular level as prana is awakened and heat is ignited from the inside out. Whereas it takes 30 minutes for asana to have a deep, penetrating effect, with kriyas it takes just minutes. Kriya is used in different traditions, such as the Babaji Lineage, the Kundalini Tradition, and the classical Hatha tradition. Although the practices vary according to the tradition, the common thread and purpose of Kriya is for evolutionary action.

The Sattva Yoga practice is an integration of Hatha Yoga, meditation, prānāyāma (Yogic breathing), Kriya, mantra, freedom movement, and transcendental wisdom. More specifically, it incorporates the five main threads of Yoga:

Raja: asana (physical yoga poses), meditation

Tantra: pranayama, Kriya, naad (yoga of sound), Himalayan kundalini, Laya movements

Jñāna: satsang (Q&A), wisdom talks, study of ancient yoga texts

Bhakti: sacred rituals, kirtan, sangha (community), partner work

Karma: seva (selfless service); ayurveda; and conscious eating, consumption, conversation, and parenting

A practice of Kriya is a tool for people to increase their ability to hold and sustain rising energy of kundalini. This practice is great for those who have had an awakening, and are looking for a holistic practice to integrate and guide their own shakti energy.

Sattva Yoga is a method that strengthens the energetic body for a smooth transition into awakening as well. We use Sattva Yoga to prepare ourselves physically, mentally and spiritually for the transformative experience available through accessing the deep reservoir of intelligent energy of the universe. Although Kriyas work to generate electricity, asana and freedom movement work to integrate the generated energy into the body, making sattva yoga an incredibly grounding practice.

Kriyas are a technique that teach us to master our own energy field. Each Kriya connects with a different energetic frequency, some leading us to the heart intelligence in a meditative manner, called laya movements, some invoking transcendental states, some
move energy through voice, others through mantra and breath. Together in a guided experience, each journey is taught with a specific intention, combining the transformative practice of Kriya, pranayama, asana, mantra, ecstatic dance, and more in an integrative
yogic experience.

In a study conducted by Stanford University, it was found that Kriya Yoga was able to bring down hypertension in patients. Studies have also found that the Kriya exercises aim at calming a patient’s mind and reducing anxiety and depression by almost 67%. In the practice of Sattva Yoga, the entire human system is energized in a very short amount of time. All of the internal organs are activated as they secrete necessary hormones and enzymes to keep the body fit. As well, with this practice there will be sufficient blood circulation to the brain and spine for balanced supply of oxygen to every party of the body. Although Kriyas produce incredible health benefits, Sattva Yoga is particularly designed for transformation, personal growth, and a steady awakening into our full potential.

For thousands of years Kriya Yoga from the Babaji Lineage was only offered from guru to disciple, however with the worldwide interest in awakening, the practice is slowly beginning to be offered in more settings by initiated teachers. This practice was passed down to Anand Mehrotra, who has taught myself and other Sattva Yoga teachers the fully integrated practice of yoga.

Yoga for Care Partners with Cheryl Kravitz
Nov 24, 2019 - Dec 8, 2019

Caregivers—or the newer term, care partners—are likely to experience emotional stress and other negative impacts on their health or well-being. Most care partners had no choice about taking on their caregiving responsibilities, thus experiencing increased strain and stress—and the physical and mental health ramifications that come with these emotions.

Care partners come in many forms. You might be supporting your mother, father, child or other loved one. You might be in a profession that calls upon those skills. Many care partners don’t take time to pay attention to themselves. During these four weeks we will discuss ways to support ourselves and one another so we can be there fully for the person we are helping.

Gentle poses, meditation, breathing, and restoratives will be part of our practice. Appropriate for all levels, including those with no prior yoga experience. Students are encouraged to bring a journal or notebook. We will also work on personal vision boards.

Yoga Through Trauma-Informed & Inclusive Language: A Class for Yoga Teachers & Other Professionals with Cheryl Kravitz
Dec 7, 2019 - Dec 7, 2019

The benefits of yoga to help people affected by trauma can be tremendous and are becoming better researched and documented. It is also key that we steer clear of stereotypes that might keep a student away from practice. Being trauma-informed and welcoming to a diversity of students is a best practice for everyone working with the public, not just “mental health” or “recovery yoga” teachers. It is important to use correct language and to avoid statements that could be triggering for each and every one of your students.
