Lyra, cerceaux or aerial hoop is one of the most popular circus apparatuses around! Using the hoop you will learn to spin, contort, flip and dive with graceful and death-defying intent!
Lyra 101 is a 90-minute workshop designed to open up the aerial world to those with little or no experience. Students will learn the basics of spinning and how to safely move through a series of fun poses on the lyra. The workshop culminates in a mini routine that is sure to impress not just your friends, but also yourself!
About the Instructor:
Kyla began dancing at the ripe age of 3, falling in love immediately with all the pretty costumes and the ability to transform into any character on stage. As she continued she grew to love it even more and got more serious about it. Kyla went on to earn her BFA in Dance from Stephens College and moved to New York shortly after. She walked by Om Factory one day, seeing the sign outside, and decided to pop in for a class after many years of being interested in pursuing aerial arts. She took her first silks class with Nolan McKew and was instantly hooked. Kyla has had the opportunity of performing aerial work at various venues such as The Slipper Room, The Edison Ballroom, Body and Pole, The Cutting Room and of course several events at Om Factory in addition to dancing for various choreographers such as Jessica Ray, Maya Kite and Yuka Kawazu. Kyla is excited to continue her aerial journey and have the opportunity to share it with others along the way!
