  •

In this course students will learn the complete Purusha Method and application of Therapeutic Asana as a means of understanding the subtle layers of mind, body, energy and consciousness. By bringing clients into specific therapeutic asanas we set the stage for learning practices that explore relaxation, letting go, witnessing what is, and connecting to parts of ourselves and spiritual source that promote entirely new paradigms of relationship with sensation, nature, and all realms of experience. This voyage of exploration and progressive mastery takes place by learning to arrange the physical body into positions that are restorative, relaxing, therapeutic and completely supported while also expertly navigating deeper and deeper pathways of consciousness.

Purusha Yoga Therapeutic Asana is a deep dive into the five layers or ‘koshas’ of somatic experiences, neuromuscular pathways, the five senses, and time/space/experience integration. The specific postures are just the starting point for layering mind and body, energy and consciousness, and eventual evolution of transformation on every level of the human ‘being’.

The course includes specific techniques from Hatha, Tantra, Tibetan, and Raja, paths of breathing, guided meditations, mudra, intentions, nadi (sound) and integration of all 8 limbs. Specific postures are utilized from the practices commonly known as ‘Yin’, and ‘Restorative’ but taught by the philosophy, energy system, and science of classic yoga (not chinese medicine). Specific postures are utilized from the practice commonly known as ‘Restorative’ but taught utilizing integration of all 5 koshas and 8 limbs.

In this course you will gain:

  • Mastery of 30 therapeutic asanas complete with progression, options, modifications, props and 5 kosha cueing.

  • Mastery of 10 pranayama practices that may be utilized to connect, control, direct and balance the mind and body.

  • Knowledge and application of 10 guided journeys that may be paired with therapeutic asana for specific goals.

  • Mastery of knowledge and application of the 5 vayus as a means of moving focus, energy and releasing tension.

  • Knowledge of how to select specific and appropriate asanas/sequences/practices for common concerns and diseases such as those related to trauma, stress, hearth, lungs, endocrine, auto immune, joints, and other specific systems and conditions.

  • A depth of understanding of the various states and conditions of the mind, consciousness, purusha/prakriti, and gunas.

  • Mastery of integration and layering of therapeutic alliance tools and relationship skills that include communication, subtle touch, modeling and intuitive listening.

  • Holding authentic and supportive space for your clients so that they can absorb the therapeutic benefits of the practice.

  • Knowledge of Yoga Nidra and its application to therapeutic 5 koshas asana practice.

Whether you are a seasoned yoga teacher or a seeker that loves to question the meaning of life, the philosophy of classic yoga most likely has been a source of great inspiration and contemplation.

In this course, we will dive into the ancient sacred texts that constitute the foundational literature for the teaching of non-duality (Advaita Vedanta). The study of these books is less about an intellectual pursuit and more about the greatest pursuit of all, which is to obtain a life worth living, with meaning, vibrancy, purpose, and a sense of celebration for every day.

The purpose of this series is to provide a window into the philosophy which may be opened through practical daily techniques and pursuits toward actually experiencing the ecstasy of mystical self-transcendence; some would call this enlightenment, and it is available to each one of us. We are all equal in this pursuit. The course provides a schematic of the Vedic and Post-Vedic periods of yogic thoughts, through practical and specific experiences which include exposition, questions and answers. Furthermore, students will collaborate efforts to create individualized programs of specific practices that provide the student a practical application of the philosophy, which is ultimately the only way to become our true selves.

Each day will focus on a specific topic from an Upanishad or classic text. Students will gain familiarity with the evolution of the teachings and philosophy of the yoga tradition, its relevance, and application to yoga therapy, as well as a deep knowledge of personal spirituality and yogic lifestyle.

At the conclusion of the course students will be able to:

  • Identify various texts that belong to each specific historic period of yoga including Vedic and Post Vedic periods.

  • Recall specific themes, and teachings that pertain to each of the Vedas, Upanishads, Sutras, and Bhagavad Gita.

  • Describe and outline the overarching theme of each of the texts studied.

  • Differentiate and discuss the evolution of yogic philosophy

  • Summarize essential teachings and philosophy from the Upanishads, Sutras and Bhagavad Gita.

  • Relate the teachings and philosophy of classic yoga to the common 8 limb practices of therapeutic yoga

  • Develop and present a basic knowledge of yogic lifestyle practices that are based on these texts.

  • Recognize common occurrences when a specific philosophy, teaching or method may be utilized with a client

  • Become familiar with how these teachings are utilized practically in therapeutic yoga programs.

  • Utilize specific philosophy as a foundation for practices that address specific lifestyle choices

  • Perform classic yoga chants, pujas and rituals in an authentic and confident manner.
