This 6-week course, suitable for practitioners and teachers alike, will give you a thorough, systematic and experiential introduction to the practice of Yoga Nidra.
Translated as 'yogic sleep', Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep, meditative rest or conscious sleep, which helps connect us to the deeper levels of our being. The many possible health benefits include improved sleep, reduced stress and anxiety and the possibility of forming new more positive habits and a feeling of balance and focus.
This course will give an introduction to the various styles and traditions of Yoga Nidra, providing an understanding of the theory and science behind the technique, including benefits of practice, the philosophical background and context within yogic texts.
When we come to this practice we are given permission to step out of the modes of 'doing' and drop back into a state of 'being'. In this state, nothing is required of you, apart from to remain awake and aware. The practitioner is guided through various stages or experiences, or simply guided into the present moment, whilst they remain in a comfortable position of their choice, usually lying down on the floor covered with a blanket and with other props to support a feeling of ease in the physical body.
Each week there will be a complete practice of between 20 and 60 minutes, exploring a different theme, or style.
As the course is offered also as an online option, the practice recordings from each session will be shared with participants (as an audio file) for them to keep for their own future practice. Please send us an email at the time of booking to let us know whether you would like to attend the course in-person (limited spaces) or online.
