Open Water Safety Essentials - Lake32
Apr 3, 2021 - Apr 3, 2021

NEW FOR 2021

Our Open Water Safety Essentials is designed for swimmers looking to gain safety knowledge for their open water swimming.

Please note this is a safety and acclimatisation session and NOT our full introduction to open water swimming, or introduction to wild swimming session types. These are available through the booking system under our clinics or introduction to open water booking tabs. This Safety essentials session will compliment the introduction session nicely.

This in water based session will take you through:

1) Putting on a wetsuit and ensuring a good fit

2) Pre entry safety

3) Getting in and acclimatisation

4) Breathing

5) Emergency Rescue situations

6) Self Rescue

7) Lake specific safety and layout and dryside tour

We anticipate this session will be around 30-45 minutes in length (depending on water temperature).

Whilst this session is aimed at new open water swimmers we have found that these skills are sometimes lacking for open water swimmers who have been in the water for some time. Learning the fundamental skills that we list above is not only important for your safety, but is also an integral part of your swimming session. Learn these skills and you WILL have a better swim.

Join us for one of these sessions at the start of the season, oer whenever you are ready to start your open water journey. It will be invaluable, I promise!

Junior Introduction To Swimming at Lake86

Juniors aged 11-16 years need to be signed off as competent to be able to swim at Lake86. We have teamed up with the guys at Lake86 to provide a lake specific session that will cover safety, basic open water skills, and the 400m test swim so that the young swimmer can then (if they pass) swim at the lake in future sessions without a coach present.

Important note, in order to ensure a minimum standard of swimmer in this session they MUST be at a county level standard time in a front crawl event and be able to swim 400m Front Crawl without stopping. See http://www.wiltshireswimming.co.uk/?page_id=133 for information and clarification.
This session is technique and safety focused so will acccomodate all swimmers from this level through to regional and national level withn the age range.

The cost of this session is £30 and includes:
- All Coaching Services.
- Cotswold Water Park Hire Lake Entry Fee for the day.
- A SwimSecure Tow Woggle (to keep).
- A level 1 Swim England Open Water Swimming Certificate & Badge (if the course is passed).
- Access to the Swim Smooth Guru for 30days so the swimmer can learn more about open water skills.

This session does not include wetsuit hire (a wetsuit is required). We are able to offer Zone3 wetsuits to order, contact us to discuss in plenty of time if required.

This session will be led by South West Swim head coach Jason Tait and will be working to Swim England Level 1 Open Water certification guidelines. Jason, is a fully qualified Level 2 Open Water coach to both Swim England and STA standards, and even helped develop and write the coaching qualification for the STA. He also coaches youngsters from various Swim & triathlon clubs and is lead open water coach for a local swimming club. Your Junior will be in very good hands with Jason and low coach to swimmer ratios are guaranteed in this session.

Please note: Swimmers MUST be able to swim 400m front crawl and meet a county qualification time as detailed above. Attendance of this course does not guarantee access to the lake if the test swim or other aspects of the session are failed, participants must pass the course for sign off.

We have further plans to develop weekly or fortnightly junior open water squad sessions and a workshop to gain level 2 and level 3 Swim England Certificates, should demand for these sessions be there.

Any questions please feel free to email me at Jason@southwestswim.co.uk. We can also run this workshop as a private session for swimming and tri clubs, contact us to discuss options and costings.
