Why This Day Matters
Loss touches every human life. Whether through the passing of a loved one, the end of a relationship, a shift in identity or home, or the unraveling of structures we once relied on—each of us carries our own tender stories. We also feel loss collectively, as the world moves through cycles of upheaval and uncertainty. Many of us were never taught how to navigate these experiences with support or ritual. Often, what we carry has nowhere to land.
In earlier times and in many cultures today, mourning is recognized as a necessary passage. People were visibly held in their sorrow - given time, space, and community care. Some Scandinavian traditions call this “being in the ashes,” a period of stepping back, tending to one’s inner landscape, and honoring what has changed. Around the world, community ritual remains central: we heal by being witnessed.
This retreat is an invitation into that remembering - into a day where what you’re holding can be acknowledged rather than hidden, and where your heart can breathe again.
Why Horses
Horses have an extraordinary capacity to sense emotion. They respond to the subtleties of breath, heartbeat, and energy, offering steady presence without judgment. Simply being near them can bring regulation and grounding. Guided by the skilled staff at Serenity Farms, we’ll spend part of our day in Equine Therapy, letting the wisdom of these animals support our process.
Your Guide
Greta Walch has spent over 30 years teaching, holding space, and guiding others through practices of embodiment, creativity, and healing. She holds a BA in Education, an MA in Art, and is a certified 500+ hour Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master, Meditation Guide, and trained facilitator in Restorative and Chair Yoga. For seven years, she owned and operated her own studio, where she led women’s circles, workshops, and grief groups, as well as several retreats.
Greta’s path is shaped by profound personal loss - the death of her 28-year-old daughter to cancer. Living with this loss each day gives her a deep understanding of what it means to navigate sorrow in a society that rarely makes space for it. Her work is grounded, honest, and compassionate, offering a place where people can be met just as they are.
