Workshop: Balancing Poses
Jun 16, 2024 - Jun 16, 2024

Improve Your Balance - a practical workshop to explore why so many of us feel we are terrible at standing on one leg!

Join Lucy for 2.5 hours of improving our balancing poses

This practice is for anyone who wants to improve their ability to balance, also their mental focus & to quieten their inner yoga-critic when practicing any kind of balances, bearing in mind we balance on arms, hands, feet, knees, shoulders & heads in yoga!

Whilst the practice will contain some fairly unpopular poses, take that as a sign they're needed. We'll address powerful muscles of the core, legs & hips & so it's only right that the practice will end with a nice restorative rest.

Balancing is not about stillness, its about riding the uncertainty with trust & skill - just like life!

This workshop will be a led class; you practicing & experiencing whilst Lucy shares as many tips, tools & wisdom as she has garnered in her last 25 years of practice. Q&A at the end & lots of adjustments & observing along the way.

Workshop: Yoga Poses to combat Backpain
Jul 21, 2024 - Jul 21, 2024

Two & a Half Hours Studying Yoga Poses that, when taught intelligently, can assist recovery from backpain.

This is an physical exploration of yoga poses said to useful to the intended focus - it is not a therapeutic workshop

This workshop will be useful to those who wish to know how to use yoga poses to assist their ongoing recovery from backpain.

It is also an excellent place to look at the intelligent execution & teaching of several poses for practitioner & teacher. Backpain, not a prerequisite! We will examine multiple poses - a physical list will be supplied with explanations. Observing & adjustments are commonplace in these workshops.

The lower back is the site of significant load transfer between the upper & lower body, - there's a join between lumbar & sacroiliac spine. The back isn't fragile, quite the opposite, it is a hard-working, strong internal structure that only gets stronger & more resilient in adulthood. Our issues tend to come from inefficient movement in our day to day lives & misunderstandings about where to look for movement & where instead we work harder than necessary in yoga poses.

Example: poses on the list....

  1. Extended Side Angle Pose
  2. Fire Log Pose
  3. Fish Pose
  4. Half Lord of the Fishes Pose
  5. Half Moon Pose
  6. Legs Up the Wall Pose
  7. Locust Pose
  8. Plow Pose
  9. Revolved Head-to-Knee Pose
  10. Revolved Triangle Pose

Workshop: Yoga Poses to increase Flexibility
Sep 1, 2024 - Sep 1, 2024

Two & a Half Hours Studying Yoga Poses that will, with time, patience & understanding, increase flexibility.

This is an physical exploration of yoga poses said to useful to the intended focus - it is not a therapeutic workshop

This workshop will be useful to those who wish to know how to use yoga poses to assist their sporting activities; suggested for cyclists, runners, triathletes & all those who acknowledge that strength & power require flexibility for optimum performance. Also, for the super stiff & inflexible beginners.

For teachers, the intelligent teaching of poses for flexibility without using our own bodies as guides - nobody struggling with flexibility wishes to watch their teacher showing how easy it is for them! We will examine multiple poses - a physical list will be supplied with explanations. Observing & adjustments are commonplace in these workshops.

Moving through yoga poses at speed for 60 minutes is not enough to undo the other 23 hours of our day. Poor posture, stress, limited movement, injury & dehydration cause sticky muscles & restrictions - how it feels is what it is - we are stuck on the inside. Healthy fascia relies on movement & hydration, slow, precises movement that teaches us patience & inward attention. Flexibility is precious to those of us who have worked for it.

Example: poses on the list....

  1. Half Frog Pose
  2. Head-to-Knee Pose
  3. Pyramid Pose | Intense Side Stretch Pose
  4. King Pigeon Pose
  5. Dancer Pose
  6. Rope Pose
  7. One-Legged King Pigeon Pose II
  8. Pose Dedicated to the Sage Marichi I
  9. Reclining Hero Pose
  10. Revolved Triangle Pose
  11. Seated Forward Bend
  12. Standing Forward Bend Pose

Workshop: Yoga Poses to combat Stress
Oct 13, 2024 - Oct 13, 2024

Two & a Half Hours Studying Yoga Poses that reduce stress.

This is an physical exploration of yoga poses said to useful to the intended focus - it is not a therapeutic workshop

This workshop will look at poses that are familiar simply because they are commonplace & their benefits are clear - we feel better after practicing them. Being stressed is not a prerequisite for attendance! Feeling good afterwards will be a by-product.

A great feelgood workshop for those who love to hold poses & perfect their understanding. Teachers, trainees & students welcome.

Yoga practice taught with inward focus as the guide boosts mental & physical self-awareness. We can learn to feel physical sensations & the minute physiological changes within. From there, we can start to feel the physiological changes associated with emotions & certain yoga poses lend themselves to experiencing these emotions. Meditation practice helps us observe emotions without judgment, which can help us explore them instead of perhaps shutting them away.

Backbends & hip openers are the primary asanas that help release emotional tension. Asanas that work on the throat, chest, shoulders & hips are commonly used to release emotions, although you can use any posture that feels right for you.

Example: Poses on the list...

  1. Big toe pose
  2. Boat Pose
  3. Forearm Plank | Dolphin Plank Pose
  4. Happy Baby Pose
  5. Plow Pose
  6. Seated Forward Bend
  7. Standing Forward Bend
  8. Supported Shoulderstand
