Thai for the Table is a class for massage therapists where one
learns a sequence of compressions, stretches, and movements as they
are found throughout Thailand. Although Thai Massage is often
practiced on a mat on the floor, it can easily be adapted to the
table so it can be more accessible for the client and more
practical for the therapist. Thai Massage is received fully
clothed, and we will not use oils or lotions for this class.
Although there will be a short lesson about history, culture and
theory of this type of therapy, it will be a mostly hands on class
taught by a seasoned and highly educated instructor. Most of all,
it will be fun and enlightening, even for those massage therapists
who have been practicing for many years.
Paul Fowler began his journey with Thai Massage in 1999 when he
first went to Thailand. Smitten by the practice and by some
teachers that he met, he began to study. For three months, every
day, he worked with teachers; learning, practicing and often
getting scolded when he messed up! It didn’t take Paul long to
realize the depth and breadth of a powerful physical therapy imbued
with Buddhist teachings.
Every year, even to this day, Paul returns to Thailand to visit and
honor his teachers as well as to keep learning from them. In 2008,
Paul founded Blue Lotus Thai Healing Studies in order share this
wonderful practice with others and to honor his teachers who
requested that he pass on this knowledge. With great humbleness and
gratitude for all the students who have gone through the program,
Blue Lotus is still thriving in Chicago and around the world.
