Yin is a slow and attentive practice. Poses are mostly floor based and supported by props to allow the body to settle and soften within a shape that is held for a longer period of time. Muscles soften, tensions ease away and the mind has an opportunity to settle too, and to really notice what is happening. It is a wonderful practice to connect with yourself, and most people find it deeply relaxing.
Within the shapes themselves we also influence energy that is flowing through us, these are referred to in a yin practice as meridians - drawing from Traditional Chinese Medicine. The shapes and sequence within a practice can be chosen to encourage a sense of harmony to these energy systems.
