In the yoga sutras we are told of the five kleshas or hindrances to our practice. The Buddha taught that
there are five mental hindrances called kilesa that serve to distract our minds and prevent us from living
in this moment.
Desire, which leads to clinging, aversion which leads to anger or hatred, sleepiness or sloth, restlessness
or nervousness and doubt.
 
We will visit each hindrance more closely during this workshop opening to awareness to our stories It is
really our stories that keep us from Joy which is our birthright!
This workshop is perfect for anyone and any level of yoga practice. Just come with a curious and open
heart. We will explore yin poses to release any strong emotions that may be present, meditation to calm
the body, mind and spirit, and breath work to bring peace.

 

About Kim:

 

Kim Dwyer has been teaching and practicing yoga for over 25 years. She has a E-YTT 500 and is a
Certified Yoga Thrapist (C-IAYT). She is the author of Meditations For Moms which was offered
thoughout the country in Barnes and Noble and in Canada. Kim's teachings draw from many insights and
methods including ancient yoga philosophy, Buddhism, and meditation techniques from many traditions.
Her classes consist of Yin style long holding poses balanced between floor and seated. These yoga
poses nourish and open the meridian energies in order to bring balance and equanimity to the body,
mind, and spirit. With thorough preparation and research, Kim adds music and insightful readings to
create a sense of balance and calm within the class. She offers hands on therapeutic adjustment and
attention to enhance the students' experience.

This workshop is for women of all ages. Whether you are preparing for, in or post menopause. The way we exercise, eat and sleep changes at different stages of life. Throughout these stages our hormones change, and it is important to have the knowledge and tools to continue to thrive and maintain healthy lifestyles.

 

In this workshop we will cover:

 

  1. Why exercise does not always equate to weight loss.

 

  1. The benefits of adding weights to a mindful yoga practice.

 

  1. The most beneficial exercises for different ages and how to start a program that suits current needs?

 

  1. How bodies are affected by sleep and the importance of circadian rhythms.

 

  1. Which foods, herbs and spices are phytoestrogens and which increase progesterone.

 

  1. How to use the wisdom of Ayurveda to help balance your imbalances (doshas), ignite your digestion (agni) and transition from your Pitta stage of life to Vata in a balanced way (alas balancing your changing hormones naturally).

 

  1. The benefits of meditation and how to build a daily practice.

 

  • This workshop will include all levels of yoga sculpt, gentle yoga and meditation.

 

  • Please be sure to wear comfortable clothing and be prepared for time on the mat.

This yoga class is for students who are expecting. As always, please check with your OB/GYN to make sure you are cleared to resume or begin a yoga practice. Utilizing specific yoga postures, breath work, and mindfulness techniques, this class allows you to strengthen, tone, and stretch the physical body, while tapping into the rest and relaxation of the emotional and mental body. This class will be a slower progression class to attend to the specific dynamics of the students. Please bring anything you need to keep yourself comfortable.
