Course In Miracles Book Club
Aug 13, 2019 - Dec 31, 2019

The Course In Miracles is self-study spiritual text that teaches that the way to love and inner peace is through forgiveness. Even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it expresses a non-sectarian, non-denominational spirituality. A Course in Miracles is therefore a universal spiritual teaching, not a religion. The Course states that “its goal for you is happiness and peace.” The text also explains the basis for fear and guilt, and how they can be overcome thought miracles, which are defined as the maximal “expressions of love.” The miracle is defined as the shift in perception from fear to love. Questioning our current beliefs, understanding we see the world through the filter of our own perceptions and that our emotions are always a result of fear or love are core concepts examined by the course. The language of the Course is often difficult for many to understand and so for this class we will start with the book Journey Beyond Words by Brent Haskell. This book brings a new and refreshing simplicity to many of the seemly difficult concepts of the Course. We will meet every other Monday and the only needed material is the Journey Beyond Words book. You can purchase the book on Amazon is the paperback or kindle version.

There is no cost for the class instead a donation of $5-10 per class is appreciated. All the funds will go to Charity Water https://www.charitywater.org/.

charity: water is a nonprofit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.

The founder Scott Harrison shows how changing your mindset can change not only your life. Watch the video on how Scott began the organization here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UE9UvT5ujyg.

The class will be facilitated by Lynette Sprowls, a student of the Course In Miracles.

The class will be held every other Monday.

Reiki Level 2 Certification
Dec 8, 2019 - Dec 8, 2019

Join Lynette Sprowls for Reiki Level 2 training in the Usui Reiki system. This next step of your Reiki journey will build on to the Reiki 1 (which is a prerequisite).

When you are attuned to Reiki Level 2, you become more aware of the importance of your connected wholeness on all levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual; wholeness and balanced health become synonymous.

Attunement to Reiki Level 2 opens your heart chakra, which is the mid-point and connector between the physical and spiritual or universal realms. Once your heart chakra opens, your intuition increases and your sensitivity to subtle energies are heightened.

Your desire to become attuned to Reiki Level 2 will happen when you are ready to move further into the deeper dimensions of healing with Reiki such as….. Distant/absentee healing
Healing deeper traumas
Healing crises
Healing relationships
Healing situations (personal or global)
Healing situations from the past, present or the future

Upon receiving 2nd level attunement, you will learn the three sacred symbols, their form, their sound, and their meaning, which will enable you to consciously direct Reiki energy through your mind (calling the energy) to achieve specific results. The practice of healing through 2nd degree can be profound, as it is considered a quantum leap forward on your spiritual path, indicating your soul’s desire to be of service to others through sharing unconditional love.

What is an Attunement? In Japanese, this ceremony is called Reiju (pronounced Ray-joo) and translated, it means spiritual energy blessing. In a modern-day ceremony, your body moves into a spiritual state (or universal energy state) through the use of ancient sounds or symbols, which harmonize your mental and emotional bodies, plus also aligns your spiritual essence within to re-connect you to your true “self” (or your soul). The attunement also clears your meridians (energy pathways) throughout your body to allow Ki energy to flow freely.

The Reiki Master Teacher does not have any special powers to pass along but merely acts as a channel to provide or create a safe place for you to draw in Ki energy, thus allowing you to connect universal life force energy (or Source) to your inner self or soul. You will draw Ki energy to the level where you specifically need it – mental, emotional, physical or spiritual levels By receiving attunement at each Reiki level, you accept universal blessings to support your journey of self-responsibility for your own spiritual progress.

Your success for your personal journey depends entirely on how much time and effort you are willing to apply; the more effort you make, the more blessings you receive. The main purpose of an attunement is to raise your energy level, plus strengthen your connection to universal spiritual energy.

Course includes:
-Class manual
-Class certificate

The class is a combination of lecture, discussion, and experience. Practice time includes giving and receiving a complete Reiki treatment using all the hand positions, the self -treatment, practice using all the level 2 symbols and learning how to do the long-distant healing.

There is a minimum of 2 people registered needed or the class will be rescheduled.

Yoga Wallflower Rope Certification Level I
Dec 13, 2019 - Dec 15, 2019

Yoga Wallflower Ropes Certification is about blossoming into your body and mind connection on the wall. Confidence building. Easing into your body with the breath to explore holding each pose to connect with your body mechanics.
You will learn yoga wall Alignment Principles as our Wall Flowers begin to grow into a practice which weight bearing and alignment principles, while including effortless inversions supported by the ropes, release of back, increased range of motion while developing strength. Beginners to Intermediate.

Our Yoga Wallflower Ropes Certifcation is beneficial for all levels of yogis, from beginners to advanced, and can provide excellent support for people dealing with injuries. The rope wall uses gravity as a natural form of resistance to help release tension from your joints, deeply stretch your entire body and increase strength.

Classes on the Rope Wall will be focused on taking time in several poses to experience the alignment principles, expect little to no flow, but gain a whole new perspective on some of your favorite poses. Learn how to anchor your poses and expand movement. Be open to the relationship your practice will expand to with the wall and ropes as your body utilizes props for a deeper practice anatomically and energetically. Iyengar style of yoga is the worlds most widely practiced method of yoga that has made yoga accessible and relevant to people everywhere, no matter what their physical or mental ability. We infuse principles of this system of teaching that is methodical and progressive, emphasizing detailed correctness and absolute safety. The Iyengar method has systematically evolved precise postures and breathing techniques with a firm basis in the Yogic philosophy. When necessary, students use props to progress safely. Beginners work in a basic way on simple postures according to their capacity. As a student develops they move on to more refined ways or working as well as to the more complex postures.

We will offer a basic introduction to using dowels in a rope wall practice. We do have a Yoga and Dowels Workshop offered to expand your knowledge of using the rope wall.

Prerequisite: We require that you have been practicing yoga regularly for at least one full year. Please tell us in advance if you have any injuries, so that we can determine if this workshop is appropriate. Working with the ropes can help with injuries, but this may not be the right time depending on what is going on with your body.

This training counts towards CEU requirement to maintain RYT recognition. 200 Hr Yoga Certification or more is required to participate in this certification.

Surviving Assault: Yoga Therapy as Early Intervention Following Assault or Trauma - A Strength-Focused Approach for Health and Holistic Practitioners with Yoga Experience (Part I only) with Diana Tokaji
Dec 14, 2019 - Dec 14, 2019

If you work with assault, trauma, acute anxiety, or PTSD, this series will support your visceral understanding of the physiology of assault, provide you with new physical practices, and guide you in holding space for another’s pain. Applying yoga therapy’s pancamayakosha model, or five sheaths – body, breath, mind, wisdom, bliss – you’ll experience how a strength-focused approach bridges body to highest wisdom, a process essential to assault survival and to finding one’s courageous path.

Just as we might stabilize a painful broken limb prior to hospital care, the broken Being needs stabilization of body and mind when her world is uprooted. This is the primary step that we address: the acute stage that may occur immediately after trauma or repeatedly thereafter. How do we safely support a body that is traumatized? How can a client -- and how do we -- tap inherent wisdom at darkest hours? You will be guided to explore inspirational body and mind practices – resources that draw us toward a new midline, breeding health where trauma once held power.

This enrollment option is for Part I: Foundational Principles & Practices for Acute Trauma Care (introduces an illuminating power point, foundational asana, R.A.I.N. and basic touch) only.

Please bring pen and pad or journal to the workshops. A folder with many handouts will be provided.

Inspirational assignments (one article, two brief videos, and two short writings) will further integrate the program for participants. For questions and to discuss partial scholarship: dianatokaji@gmail.com

Yoga Deconstructed®: Creativity Meets Science with Trina Altman
Jan 25, 2020 - Jan 26, 2020

Movement Science Meets Asana: A New Paradigm (1/25, 12:30-3:30p)

Are you finding that your students often struggle to do even the most basic poses in your classes? Or, if they're able to do all the poses, do they complain of wrist, back or hip pain?

Unfortunately, most people are desk bound and their only movement for the day is during yoga class, so their bodies aren't well adapted for the large ranges of motion required. Conversely, many of our students who are able to practice all the poses are still in pain, because they aren't balancing out their extreme ranges of motion with stability and strength.

If you're struggling with helping your students become more embodied and want strategies to create a safer class environment, this workshop is for you.

This Yoga Deconstructed® workshop will teach you:

* How to apply modern movement science to your yoga teaching.
* How to bring functional movement into your classes, while still feeling like you are teaching yoga.
* An exercise science based approach to sequencing to prepare the body for movement and minimize the risk of pain and injury.
* Understanding the components of a pose, such as directions of movement at each joint, loading principles, and biomechanics.
* An introduction to taking an interdisciplinary approach to teaching yoga and how to add techniques from other modalities to your teaching toolbox.

A New Beginning: An Updated Approach to Prepare Your Students for Asana (1/25, 4:30-7:30p)

In yoga classes, we're trying to create an environment that nurtures your mind as well as your structure. However, many of our students don't feel safe in classes because they're afraid of doing the poses incorrectly or receiving an unwanted hands-on adjustment.

Additionally, in most yoga classes, a typical warm up doesn't facilitate joint differentiation. For example, in cat/cow most students will flex and extend their spine in the places that already have the most mobility, rather than finding movement in places that are underused.

Beginning your classes with somatic exercises and sensory feedback methods before a corrective exercise such as cat/cow helps your students become aware of movement blind spots that may contribute to pain in more advanced poses later in class.

This Yoga Deconstructed® workshop will teach you:

* How to choose somatic exercises to encourage active ranges of motion, promote dynamic full body movement, and help prepare the body for larger static poses.
* The application of myofascial release techniques to help your students embody the anatomical concepts taught in traditional yoga, so they can better understand the purpose of the pose.
* How to apply the pain science paradigm to empower your students to trust that their bodies are robust and resilient.
* Strategies to introduce variability and neuromuscular re-education into class that help facilitate tissue resiliency, neuroplasticity, and new motor patterns.

Corrective Exercise: Introducing Creativity & Critical Thinking Into Your Classes (1/26, 12:30-3:30p)

Modern postural yoga uses poses that in theory prepare the body for a peak pose at the end of class. However, exercise science has shown that there is a more effective way. By incorporating corrective exercises into our classes, we can better prepare the body for more challenging asanas, while bridging the gap between our sedentary lifestyle and yoga asana. This also helps to reduce the risk of injury.

Also: asana is a highly specialized form of movement that often emphasizes aesthetics over function. Through corrective exercise, we can balance out our practice by including movements that don't exist in yoga poses, thus reducing our risk of pain and overuse injuries.

If you've been trying to incorporate corrective exercises in your teaching, but have been struggling with selecting the right exercises and sequencing them within a class, then this workshop is for you.

Oftentimes, alignment cues are thought to be synonymous with safety. However, not all alignment cues correlate with biomechanics or function. This is why critical thinking skills can make you a more effective teacher.

In this Yoga Deconstructed® workshop, you will learn to apply critical thinking when teaching, creating and selecting corrective exercises.

This will help you understand:
* How to choose the right corrective exercises for your students' needs and based on what you see in the room.
* How to use corrective exercises to prepare your students' tissues and joints for specific asanas.
* The application of corrective exercise to improving function in everyday life and athletic performance.

Putting It All Together: A Revolutionary & Non Dogmatic Approach to Asana (1/26, 4:30-7:30p)

Have you been trying to keep up with the latest research, but you aren't sure how to apply it to your classes?

Are you looking for a way to differentiate yourself and specialize in movement, so you can establish credibility, be the go-to expert in your community, fill your classes, and get more private clients?

Do you just want to know how to keep your students safe?

If so, you're in the right place.

Unlock your creative potential and movement smarts by learning how to combine applied anatomy with the transformative aspects of yoga.

This updated, evidence based formula will keep you current in your teaching, prepare you to foster a safe environment for multi-level classes, help you attract more private clients, and build your following.

This workshop will synthesize everything you've learned in the previous workshops, so you can:

* Structure classes and layer exercises in a fun and challenging way, while keeping the heart of yoga.
* Teach from a skills based approach, instead of lineage based approach.
* Feel confident teaching complex poses and exercises in multi-level classes.
* Incorporate exercises and theories from multiple modalities into your teaching.
* Help your students build strength and stability to balance out their yoga practice.

All workshops will be held in Silver Spring.

Each workshop can be taken individually. A certificate of attendance is awarded to students who take all four workshops. Qualifies for 12 Yoga Alliance CECs.

Winter Warmer Workshop with James Foulkes
Feb 22, 2020 - Feb 22, 2020

During the Winter Months our energies tend to naturally be drawn inwards as nature becomes still and the cold weather and long nights draw in.

But something deeper is at work.

The Water energy of Winter is an expression of Maximum Yin and Responsiveness. We will balance the Yin nature of the gentle cleansing stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang practices, whilst using meditation, to support the sustaining of our energetic field through the colder months working with the active kidney and bladder energy.

This time is also one of incubating ideas and intentions to manifest in the Spring.

We will establish multi-layered intentions to blossom in the forthcoming year by peering into the shadows of Winter through journeying.

Yoga for Care Partners with Cheryl Kravitz
Feb 23, 2020 - Mar 8, 2020

Caregivers—or the newer term, care partners—are likely to experience emotional stress and other negative impacts on their health or well-being. Most care partners had no choice about taking on their caregiving responsibilities, thus experiencing increased strain and stress—and the physical and mental health ramifications that come with these emotions.

Care partners come in many forms. You might be supporting your mother, father, child or other loved one. You might be in a profession that calls upon those skills. Many care partners don’t take time to pay attention to themselves. During these four weeks we will discuss ways to support ourselves and one another so we can be there fully for the person we are helping.

Gentle poses, meditation, breathing, and restoratives will be part of our practice. Appropriate for all levels, including those with no prior yoga experience. Students are encouraged to bring a journal or notebook. We will also work on personal vision boards.

Ex: Stress, time management, money management, negative self-image, etc. Together with the CSA coaches and other women, you’ll learn how to discover your true ‘Why’ and how we tell ‘stories’ about, and to ourselves, when our actions don’t align with who we think we are or want to be. We’ll teach you how to implement tools and strategies (utilized by sports psychologists, behavioral therapists and successful humans everywhere) to ensure you can overcome even the toughest barriers; while learning how to achieve the flexibility and mental fortitude necessary to tackle anything life may throw at you.

This immersion weekend will allow you to work as a team and in one-on-one settings with CSA coaches. It is uniquely designed to give you the strongest foundation for your pursuit and goals; whether that be the competition stage, general wellness/fitness, or in other areas of your life. We believe that the knowledge you gain, coupled with the work you put in, will give you a unique perspective and advantage to set you on the path to success in all areas of your life.

The ultimate goal of the CSA weekend/program is to train your mind, body and spirit in such a way that you begin to see yourself as an athlete where the lifestyle becomes an integral part of who you are.

Rest for All: Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Tara Lemerise
Mar 28, 2020 - Mar 29, 2020

Some of our students' deepest experiences of yoga happen when we can give them the opportunity to stop working to control their body and mind and instead help them rest with support, awareness, and intention. The deep, purposeful kind of resting possible with restorative yoga can eliminate fatigue, expedite recovery from injuries, ease experiences of anxiety, and develop resistance to the impact of stress on physical and mental health, among other things. This teacher training will provide the tools you need to teach restorative poses with confidence and ease, both in a group setting and to one-on-one clients.

You will learn:

- detailed alignment and propping instruction of at least seven restorative postures
- the benefits, applications, and energetics of restorative yoga asanas
- when and how to use props to initiate a relaxation response
- how to address injuries, limitations, and special conditions during restorative practice
- ways to identify physical and energetic misalignment in restorative poses
- skills for physical and verbal adjustments during restorative practice
This training is ideal for:

- new and experienced yoga teachers who want to expand their teaching skills
- anyone currently enrolled in an immersion or yoga teaching training program
- anyone interested in deepening their understanding and experience of restorative yoga

This training is eligible for 12 hours of continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance and, after completion, there are opportunities to join Tara's apprenticing program.
