This six week course will guide you through the basics of yoga poses, alignment, breathwork and relaxation. Yoga can help you to find physical ease, develop physical and mental strength, deal with stress and heal from injury.
We will focus on a different group of poses each week eg forward bends, backbends, twists and you will be able to take your time finding your unique optimum alignment and how to modify the poses for your body.
We will also be looking at how to breathe well for health and calm, and how the functional breath can help us to access postures and keep the body supple.
You will find out the benefits of each pose and you'll be able to feel the benefits of your yoga practice very soon. A focused and well-paced discovery of yoga can help you to befriend the body, vastly improve body awareness and allow you to develop your own tools for health and wellbeing.
Week 1: Building body awareness. Using energy efficiently
Week 2: Grounding. Finding our foundations and moving safely into backbends and standing poses.
Week 3: Uplifting. Building on our foundations. Weight bearing and forward bends.
Week 4: Expanding. Exploring space within and without the body. Focus on twisting poses. Introduction to mindfulness
Week 5: Finding your centre. Core awareness, building neuromuscular connections. Focus on balancing and core strength.
Week 6: The broader context of yoga. Focus on hip releasing postures.
