The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart. -Helen Keller

We will focus on how we move and tap into how we feel this movement in our bodies. Through this process we will explore how we make connections without visual feedback, both on and off the mat. This class is open to all yogis, regardless of amount of sight, however, fully sighted yogis will be asked to wear a blindfold during class.

Class is by-donation.

Baby Massage with Maria Sakaria
Feb 22, 2020 - Nov 21, 2020

Join us for a 75-minute Baby Massage workshop with your little one! Studies have shown that infant massage strengthens the immune system, stimulates digestion, improves quality of sleep by soothing the nervous system, reduces muscle tension, relieves gas and colic, and so much more. Most importantly, the loving touch provided through infant massage strengthens the physical and emotional connection between you and your baby. Making baby massage a part of your routine with your little one has proven to enhance bonding and relationships through close physical and emotional connection! Studies show that the more tactile stimulation a baby receives in his or her first months of life up through the first year can positively impact their brain development.

The baby massage class is meant for you and your baby, 6 weeks to 8 months, and is also open to grandparents and caretakers. You can sign up online or show up and register the day of the workshop, walk ins are welcomed!

In this class you will:
- Learn how to give your baby a massage
- Learn specific massage techniques before nap time to encourage sleep
- Learn strategic ways to relieve gas, constipation, colic, and stress
- Learn how to enhance brain development, emotional and physical health for your baby
- Get one-on-one bonding time with your baby

Please make sure to bring an extra blanket for baby, a clean towel (small or medium) and be prepared to take onsies and diapers off for the full skin to skin touch and massage. Organic Sesame Oil will be provided in class for the massage so please notify the instructor in case of any baby allergies.

Cost includes one baby and one adult. Each additional adult costs $10.

Sweet Surrender New Moon Sound Bath
Feb 23, 2020 - Feb 23, 2020

Ishvara Pranidhana, the last niyama of the yoga sutras, invites us to surrender. Surrender into our divine nature. Bow into the force of the universe. When we surrender we can direct our energy away from ‘our story’ and see the bigger picture of our life. When we live life as a prayer we become more mindful of the beauty within and around us and each other.

Join us – Karen and Nieda – as we explore the theme of Sweet Surrender through gentle movement, mantra, and meditation. We will then relax into the healing sounds of singing bowls, drums, gongs and more. Please dress comfortably, and bring any items for comfort (pillow, blanket, eye mask). You may also bring crystals for charging in the vibrations.

Winter Warmer Workshop with James Foulkes
Feb 29, 2020 - Feb 29, 2020

During the Winter Months our energies tend to naturally be drawn inwards as nature becomes still and the cold weather and long nights draw in.

But something deeper is at work.

The Water energy of Winter is an expression of Maximum Yin and Responsiveness. We will balance the Yin nature of the gentle cleansing stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang practices, whilst using meditation, to support the sustaining of our energetic field through the colder months working with the active kidney and bladder energy.

This time is also one of incubating ideas and intentions to manifest in the Spring.

We will establish multi-layered intentions to blossom in the forthcoming year by peering into the shadows of Winter through journeying.

Yoga for Care Partners with Cheryl Kravitz
Mar 8, 2020 - Mar 8, 2020

Caregivers—or the newer term, care partners—are likely to experience emotional stress and other negative impacts on their health or well-being. Most care partners had no choice about taking on their caregiving responsibilities, thus experiencing increased strain and stress—and the physical and mental health ramifications that come with these emotions.

Care partners come in many forms. You might be supporting your mother, father, child or other loved one. You might be in a profession that calls upon those skills. Many care partners don’t take time to pay attention to themselves. During these four weeks we will discuss ways to support ourselves and one another so we can be there fully for the person we are helping.

Gentle poses, meditation, breathing, and restoratives will be part of our practice. Appropriate for all levels, including those with no prior yoga experience. Students are encouraged to bring a journal or notebook. We will also work on personal vision boards.

The Shamans said that this would open the hearts of those who were drawn here so that they would be prepared to seek and embark on their own journeys. The history of the place is amazing (Wyatt Earp's brother owned the property) The wolves are teachers and particularly get excited when the children come to visit. They are gentle and loving. The wolf medicine teaches us how to come together as family, how to rely on one another, and how to care for the young, old and sick.
The wolves are leaders, teachers, and protectors. The children learn much from them – respect for all animals and creations, respect for themselves, one another, their siblings, their parents, their teachers, their classmates, Mother Earth and all elements.

Women's Life Athlete Retreat
Mar 13, 2020 - Mar 13, 2020

WOMEN'S LIFE ATHLETE RETREAT

March 13-15, 2020

Lake Ana, Virgina

The CSA Life Athlete program, all-inclusive, women-only retreat is a unique opportunity to spend an intensive weekend with other women just like you; immersed in the lifestyle and psychology of successful people everywhere. This one of a kind experience will expedite your knowledge of the critical components of the mind, body and spirit relationship. Upon completion, we hope to have you feeling like an athlete in all areas of your life; truly becoming a Life Athlete.

The CSA women’s weekend Life Athlete retreat is limited to only 14 participants. Those participating will be a part of a one of a kind, ground-breaking, all-inclusive, opportunity to surround yourself with other like-minded women. There is currently no other program like it, focused solely on the empowerment of female athletes of all experience levels.

Are there areas in your life you believe are negatively impacting your ability to be the best possible YOU? Ex: Stress, time management, money management, negative self-image, etc. Together with the CSA coaches and other women, you’ll learn how to discover your true ‘Why’ and how we tell ‘stories’ about, and to ourselves, when our actions don’t align with who we think we are or want to be. We’ll teach you how to implement tools and strategies (utilized by sports psychologists, behavioral therapists and successful humans everywhere) to ensure you can overcome even the toughest barriers; while learning how to achieve the flexibility and mental fortitude necessary to tackle anything life may throw at you.

This immersion weekend will allow you to work as a team and in one-on-one settings with CSA coaches. It is uniquely designed to give you the strongest foundation for your pursuit and goals; whether that be the competition stage, general wellness/fitness, or in other areas of your life. We believe that the knowledge you gain, coupled with the work you put in, will give you a unique perspective and advantage to set you on the path to success in all areas of your life.

The ultimate goal of the CSA weekend/program is to train your mind, body and spirit in such a way that you begin to see yourself as an athlete where the lifestyle becomes an integral part of who you are.

Mar 15, 2020 - Mar 15, 2020

Fascia is connective tissue that supports the structure of your body. When it’s healthy, fascia allows your muscles and tissues to slide and glide as you move. But when your fascia gets tight and stuck, it can restrict your movement.

Restricted movement can also be the result of holding tension in your body due to the habitual ways that we sit, stand, and move around in the world. Restricted movement and tension in the quadriceps, hips, and hamstrings have an impact on your low back, your knees, and your ability to stand with ease.

In this workshop, you will learn how to release the layers of fascia, decrease tension, and create space in your quads, hips, and hamstrings using a variety of balls, massage peanuts, yoga props, and yoga poses.

The goal of this workshop is to release fascial “stuckness," decrease tension, and increase mindful movement in the legs and hips for a happier, healthier body.

Everyone welcome!

- Do’s and Don’ts: movements which are safe and movements to be avoid

Then we’ll guide you through carefully selected yoga poses to build muscle and bone, improve posture, balance, and overall strength as recommended by Dr. Lauren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall.

Yoga Through Trauma-Informed & Inclusive Language: A Class for Yoga Teachers & Other Professionals with Cheryl Kravitz
Mar 22, 2020 - Mar 22, 2020

The benefits of yoga to help people affected by trauma can be tremendous and are becoming better researched and documented. It is also key that we steer clear of stereotypes that might keep a student away from practice. Being trauma-informed and welcoming to a diversity of students is a best practice for everyone working with the public, not just “mental health” or “recovery yoga” teachers. It is important to use correct language and to avoid statements that could be triggering for each and every one of your students.

About Cheryl

Cheryl Kravitz, APR, CFRE, RYT200 plus, is a graduate of the Willow Street Yoga Teacher Training Program in Maryland. She received additional certification to teach yoga to survivors of trauma, restorative yoga and yoga for brain longevity. She teaches weekly public classes as well as specialized yoga to people with injuries, survivors of abuse, individuals with dementia and caregivers.

She served as Executive Director of an organization focused on building inclusive communities and was Director of Marketing and Media Relations for the American Red Cross. She currently consults with several organizations on strategic planning, marketing and communications. She learned early on that yoga is a universal language and has found the practice resonates with the diversity of students she teaches.

Rest for All: Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Tara Lemerise
Mar 28, 2020 - Mar 29, 2020

Some of our students' deepest experiences of yoga happen when we can give them the opportunity to stop working to control their body and mind and instead help them rest with support, awareness, and intention. The deep, purposeful kind of resting possible with restorative yoga can eliminate fatigue, expedite recovery from injuries, ease experiences of anxiety, and develop resistance to the impact of stress on physical and mental health, among other things. This teacher training will provide the tools you need to teach restorative poses with confidence and ease, both in a group setting and to one-on-one clients.

You will learn:

- detailed alignment and propping instruction of at least seven restorative postures
- the benefits, applications, and energetics of restorative yoga asanas
- when and how to use props to initiate a relaxation response
- how to address injuries, limitations, and special conditions during restorative practice
- ways to identify physical and energetic misalignment in restorative poses
- skills for physical and verbal adjustments during restorative practice
This training is ideal for:

- new and experienced yoga teachers who want to expand their teaching skills
- anyone currently enrolled in an immersion or yoga teaching training program
- anyone interested in deepening their understanding and experience of restorative yoga

This training is eligible for 12 hours of continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance and, after completion, there are opportunities to join Tara's apprenticing program.

Cost includes a spiral bound 30-page Restorative Yoga Teacher Training Manual.

Yoga for Survivors of Cancer with Cheryl Kravitz
Apr 4, 2020 - Apr 4, 2020

You’ve had the diagnosis, you are in treatment, or you are finished. Cheryl Kravitz, Willow Street Yoga teacher, is currently being treated for breast cancer and is continuing her yogic journey in her weekly class and her workshops.

According to the American Cancer Society, research has long shown that yoga can control physical functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, metabolism, body temperature, brain waves, and skin resistance. This can result in improved physical fitness, lower levels of stress, and increased feelings of relaxation and well-being.

According to the National Institutes of Health, there is also some evidence to suggest yoga may be helpful when used with conventional medical treatment to help relieve some of the symptoms linked to cancer, asthma, diabetes, drug addiction, high blood pressure, heart disease, and migraine headaches.

Please talk to your doctor before starting any new exercise or new therapy to make sure it's safe for you. Use yoga alongside, not instead of, conventional medical treatment. Yoga cannot cure cancer and should not be used by itself to treat cancer or delay treatment.

Fascial Release and Tension Relief for Your Neck and Shoulders with Tricia Kull
Apr 5, 2020 - Apr 5, 2020

Do you carry tension in your shoulders? Do you have neck pain? If so, you are not alone. Tight shoulders and neck pain are common symptoms of modern living. The culprits for your pain could be everyday activities, such as sitting hunched in front of your computer screen, constant focus on your mobile device, or driving. In addition, maybe you have a shoulder injury, arthritis, or have suffered whiplash. Regardless of the cause, help is on the way.

In this workshop, we will review the anatomy of the neck, upper back, and shoulders. A variety of balls, massage peanuts, and other props will be used to release tension and create space in the body. You will learn how to support your neck and shoulders by using your feet and legs. In addition, specific techniques and movement exercises will be shared that release tightness and tension in the shoulders and neck. Once this tightness and tension is released, your upper body will start to remember how it was designed to align and move.

CoreWalking with Jonathan FitzGordon
Apr 24, 2020 - Apr 26, 2020

Friday, April 24th, 6:45–8:45p: The Art of Tadasana

Tadasana is the foundation pose of most yoga practices. But how well do you see yourself in Tadasana?

How well do you see yourself as you go about your day?

This workshop will change the way you perceive and feel your body in space. Making simple changes to the way you stand in yoga and in life has a profound effect on your daily life, pain issues and athletic performance.

Saturday, April 25th, 1–4p: Yoga For Hips And Balance

Initiating movement from the core of the body is essential to moving well, healing successfully, and aging gracefully. To do that, we need good tone for all of the muscles in and around the pelvis for strength and balance and fluidity.

This workshop focuses on the pelvic muscles that facilitate balance and healthy movement patterns.

Saturday, April 25th, 5–8p: Psoas Release Party!

The psoas is the most important muscle in the body, acting as the main hip flexor and the engine of walking. A free and happy psoas allows the body to move with peak efficiency and little strain. Issues with the psoas can lead to any number of problems throughout your body—both physical and emotional. Lower back pain and other joint discomfort as well as disturbances to the nervous system can be linked to the psoas.

This is not a yoga class. You will spend the afternoon awakening, learning about, and releasing the psoas and understanding its core function within the body.

Sunday, April 26th, 1–4p: Yoga for Strength and Stability

Moving from the core requires balanced muscle tone and fluid joints, and in this class you will breathe, focus, move, stretch, and balance to create a more solid center. Core abdominal tone improves nearly every pose, allowing us to move with purpose and ease. Strength built on the mat informs your life when you step off of the mat, allowing you to live work and play to your fullest.

This workshop focuses on building a solid center from which healthy movement patterns originate.

Sunday, April 26th, 5–8p: What Is CoreWalking? (And Why Do I Need it?)

The CoreWalking Program provides pain relief, healing, and techniques for aging gracefully. Using simple adjustments to the way you walk, stand, sit, and exercise—CoreWalking can have life-changing results. It offers specific bodywork tools that you can easily integrate into your daily routine to reverse whatever has been holding you back from your fullest life.

In this class, you will learn a natural walking technique that helps align your bones, free your joints, and bring welcome relief to overused muscles.

When the body moves as it is designed, all parts work in harmony and the body becomes a self healing machine. Using the CoreWalking techniques, you can bring your body into the state of balance that allows you to both move and age gracefully.
