Rama J. Vernon, is the founder of the California Yoga Association, the co-founder of the Yoga Journal and founder of the Iyengar Association has trained Yoga teachers in America since l968. She has put on Yoga Conferences in the former Soviet Union, Costa Rica and Israel. In l984 she founded the Center for International Dialogue to expand Yoga into countries throughout the world such as Afghanistan, Kosovo, the Middle East and other areas of conflicts. She was educated at the California Institute for Asian (Integral) studies where for eight year she studied Eastern Philosophy, East-West Psychology, Sanskrit and Buddhist Meditation. One of the first Yoga teachers in America, Rama has trained thousands of teachers and for decades has brought Yoga into the world as a vehicle for finding inner peace even in the midst of conflict and war. Zoreh Afsarzadeh has been teaching yoga since 1985. In 1999, she founded the High Desert Yoga studio in Albuquerque, where she continues to teach and co-direct the 200- and 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs. Zoreh also teaches weekly asana classes for the general population and leads weekend workshops on a wide variety of topics in yoga and well-being. In addition, she offers private yoga sessions to help those with back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle issues become pain free through proper posture, alignment, and mindfulness.
Zoreh's upbringing in Iran started her on the path of Sufism, meditation, and spirituality. During her lifetime, she has studied numerous methodologies including Iyengar, Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy, Siddha yoga, and that of the American Yoga College. Zoreh is passionate about yoga and exploring the heavenly spots in the world, so for more than 20 years, she has offered yoga and meditation retreats in inspiring locations such as Mexico, Thailand, India, Costa Rica, and Bali, as well as at various locations in New Mexico. Zoreh and her husband Charlie have created a beautiful outdoor studio, Yoga del Pacifico, on the beach in Troncones, Mexico, where she and other many well-known teachers regularly host retreats.

Patti has been a physical therapist 45 years and a yoga teacher for 15. She is a life long learner, and creative in the process of integrating her vast studies as a PT and the wisdom of yoga. She brings together experience in manual therapies, trauma resolution, sensory integration and yoga wisdom in ways that make yoga accessible to everyone... no matter the challenge. In her private practice as a physical therapist, Patti utilizes a depth of understanding and curiosity to assist her clients become more empowered in their bodies. As a yoga teacher, she assists students in becoming more creative and curious in personalizing their yoga practice. She also teaches yoga teachers to be more skillful when working with students with challenges.
Zhenya Novareign is committed to guiding women with natural approaches to reproductive health by addressing concerns such as painful & irregular menstruation, fatigue, uterine diseases, and infertility, so that they can re-gain vitality and empower their lives. She is a trauma-informed 500 Hour Certified Yoga instructor with special certifications in prenatal, restorative, and kids yoga. Zhenya is also a holistic health counselor and Arvigo Maya Abdominal Therapy practitioner (also known as "Mayan Abdominal Massage”). By employing traditional therapies such as fire cupping, pelvic herbal steaming, and yoga, Zhenya creates individualized programs to support women in discovering the roots of their issues to find lasting results. Her diverse yoga offerings are rooted in alignment-based and therapeutic approaches that help students of all ages, genders and backgrounds build strength and flexibility while enhancing their overall physical & emotional well-being. She loves to share her passion for mantra, music, and poetry and is a committed mother and steward of the earth.
Doreen began her formal practice in yoga and meditation in 1982. During the course of her 33-year career as a Psychiatric Physician Assistant and Master's Level Counselor, she studied and taught Mindfulness Meditation for Veterans and pursued numerous trainings in both allopathic and natural medicine, massage, meditation, astrology, and yoga. In 2011 Doreen completed the HDY 500 hour Teacher Training and has been teaching yoga for the last 8 years. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as E-RYT 500 and has assisted in the HDY Teacher Training. Doreen has also studied and practiced Western Astrology for many years. Seeking balance in mind, body and spirit is Doreen’s life-long quest and she is passionate about continued learning and sharing with others.
As a teacher, dancer, choreographer and poet for over 40 years, Stefa found herself nurtured on her path to yoga by remarkable people, a passion for the body, and her lifelong experience teaching people with different backgrounds and abilities. She worked in deaf culture for 25 years and is an advanced signer in American Sign Language, as well as teaching dance to autistic and blind students. Stefa completed her 500 hour Yoga Teacher Training and Senior Yoga Certification at High Desert Yoga in 2017, and is registered with Yoga Alliance as RYT-500. She teaches senior, adaptive, and gentle level classes at HDY. Stefa is inspired to continue reaching out to share the precious gift of yoga with everyone and is grateful for this further nurturing of her own spirit.
Regan started her yoga journey in her early teens, originally discovering the practice of Kundalini. She found healing in every kriya and has been dedicated to the practice ever since. Regan completed the High Desert Yoga 500 hour Teacher training and Children’s Yoga Training with Radiant Child Yoga. As the eldest of six children, Regan takes great joy in being a big sister and continues to strive to help children grow, learn, and thrive. Her style of teaching invites space for learning, music, games, and imagination all while learning the fundamentals of the asanas. Above all Regan is, and always will be, a student, continuing to learn and grow in her spiritual practice.
Nora started her Hatha Yoga journey in NYC in 1998. She has studied and practiced many different styles of Yoga and meditation over 20+ years, including Iyengar, Ashtanga, Yin Yoga, and Buddhist meditation. Nora is grateful to have received her Iyengar-style Yoga Teacher Training from the great school and its master teachers at High Desert Yoga. Nora was also trained as a professional ballerina from the age of 7 and received her BA degree in dance & choreography. Nora has taught Yoga at Wellspring Yoga and as a volunteer instructor for the VA's Mind-Body program for military veterans. She also enjoys being outdoors running, biking, hiking, and swimming. She warmly welcomes all, from all different walks of life, to her class.
Tim has taught private and group classes since 2004. His classes focus on helping students to have their own deep experience in a safe and sacred space. He began his yoga training in 2001 with Tias Little in the Ashtanga vinyasa and Iyengar traditions, and has completed all 6 levels of Prajna Yoga teacher training. In addition, he has also studied chanting and philosophy of the Yoga Sutras with Sonia Nelson at the Vedic Chant Center. Tim is a Licensed Massage Therapist and in May of 2012 graduated from the world renowned Ayurvedic Institute. Ayurveda is an ancient traditional medicine native to India, literally translating to “the science and/or knowledge of life.” Tim uses this ancient science to consult with clients about their diet and lifestyle.
