Trained as a classical ballet dancer, Lauren’s interest in yoga and Pilates began as a teenager when she danced for the Johnstown Concert Ballet. She then attended Shenandoah University to earn a BA in Dance. While at Shenandoah, Lauren studied courses such as kinesiology, biomechanics, and anatomy and physiology. These courses both enhanced her dance/movement education and prepared her for SU’s Pilates teacher training program. She received her Pilates mat certification under Kim Gibilisco (PMA CPT, PMA Board Director) in 2006-2007. For several years, Lauren primarily practiced and taught Pilates as she was “on the fence” about yoga. ;) Lauren finally caved and decided to take a level one teacher training course through YogaFit in 2011.
Lauren now is a 200 hour RYT and specializes in trauma-sensitive yoga (yoga for PTSD, Addiction/Recovery, Restorative Therapeutics, Mood Balancing, Thai Energy/Massage). As a pre-PA student, her teaching style is anatomically-based with safety and efficacy at the foundation. Lauren also strives to tailor her classes for each of her students, creating an inclusive environment for all practitioners to experience. Most of all, Lauren’s energy helps her students find the will to “work” through their practice so that they can find their “bliss” not only in Savasana, but also in their day-to-day lives.
Richard Gartner is one of Pittsburgh's most resourceful, knowledgeable and uplifting yoga teachers. His instructions are accurate without being finicky. He fosters a non-dogmatic and compassionate attitude about students' faculty and circumstances.
The teachings fuse traditional posture and breathwork with contemporary anatomy and bodywork. It draws from all forms of yoga, trigger-point therapy, mindfulness techniques and common sense.
His classes are challenging and intense, with a respect for everyone's abilities. Richard does not teach any style of yoga. Going beyond a single yoga system, Richard builds on svadyaya (self-study) to help students discover their anatomy, energy, and mind.
Richard is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher through Yoga Alliance. His workshops can be taken for continuing education credit.
Terri believes that yoga is a way of life that offers increased strength, greater flexibility, and improved balance both physically and emotionally. It is her desire to share this with others.
