I had my first ever Yoga class with Marietta last Friday. I can honestly say that this has been the highlight of my month! Not only is the facility gorgeous (building from the 1800's with hardwood floors and brick walls), the energy and ambiance created there made me so comfortable. Marietta is funny, thought-provoking, but never spoke too much or too loudly during the session. All of the positions we worked on were challenging but appropriate for everyone's experience-level. I never felt uncomfortable or judged, which was something I was initially concerned with when signing up for Yoga for the first time. All in all, the facility, instructor, music, positions, and company were great. I plan to continue going to this facility and working with Marietta and her team in the future!
When I was five years old, my mother would wake me up at six a.m. to do yoga with Priscilla on PBS. I distinctly remember sitting on the carpet and showing my mother how easily I could come into a fully bound lotus pose. I will always remember the time we spent in the peaceful quiet and dim light of the early morning, waking our bodies up slowly with the sun.
After spending my childhood studying ballet, I always held on to the awareness I built of my body and how the subtlest of movements can make such a big difference. After struggling with depression and anxiety throughout my adolescence, I came back to yoga in 2009 to not only continue using my body as a vehicle for creative expression, but to use it as a tool for healing my mind and soul.
Using my practice to integrate my physical, mental, and spiritual Self, I have experienced so much relief that I can't help but want to share it with everyone! Yoga has become not only my medicine, but a constant source of inspiration, self-discovery and infinite transformation. My mission in teaching is to make the peace, joy, and gratitude I have gained from practicing yoga accessible to everyone.
