I took my first class today at Liberty Yoga and it was challenging but doable. I loved the energy of Christine and I also loved that I am able to join the class via Zoom since I’m an hour away from the studio.
I came to yoga from a background in long distance running
looking for a way to “gain flexibility”. Little did I know that the
“flexibility” I would gain would be accompanied by a profound
appreciation for the healing practice of yoga for my body, mind,
and spirit. I have been practicing yoga since 2007 and teaching
yoga since 2014. I completed my yoga teacher training through
Empowered Yoga in Wilmington, Delaware in 2014 (RYT200) and am
working toward my 500-hour RYT certification. I am also a certified
meditation instructor who leads meditation classes targeting the
“twenty something” age group. I am a faculty member in the
Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of
Delaware where I do research on the brain mechanisms of memory. I
teach a popular course called “Mindfulness and the Brain” along
with other neuroscience undergraduate and graduate courses. I
strive to bring a calm, healing energy to my yoga classes. I
encourage my students to, in Pema Chödrön’s words, “start where you
are” and to allow the yoga practice to acquaint them with their
inherent goodness.
