He is a publicity shy introvert who has taught for more than 31 years, owned four yoga studios, lead 34 yoga teacher trainings, and many thousands of yoga classes. In the sunset of his life, Tom is just beginning to get the hang of it. It has always been about the breath.
He has returned back to his praanaayaama roots of Kripalu Ashram in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Everyday in the early morning, he dives deep in a one hour Anuloma Viloma practice. This is the doorway of the yoga tradition.
Tom initially began his yoga practice at Colgate University in 1976. His yoga heart was awakened in 1986 by Yogi Amrit Desai known as Gurudev. For the next three years Tom hung out with Gurudev in St Croix. Tom moved into Kripalu Ashram in 1989 and lived there for 6 years. It was a time of devoted spiritual foment. He became one of the directors Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training at the ashram. Tom dove into Vipassanna, Iyengar, Bikram, Lakulish, and Ashtanga Yoga, making three trips to India. Tom has followed so many extraordinary teachers and a little bit of all them show up in his work. Most of all, he let his teaching evolve over time out of the public eye.
