Islay Taylor
Islay (she/her) believes that life is a spectrum of nuances and
that a yoga practice helps to increase being comfortable with the
unknown. She is dedicated to providing a compassionate and safe
space for students to explore the union of body, mind, and world in
pursuit of deepening the bonds of these relationships. She
considers yoga asana as a vehicle to investigate and internalize
yogic philosophies and concepts.
Her classes are intelligently designed to improve flexibility,
build strength, resilience, and empower students to foster a sense
of curiosity about their unique asana practices. Utilizing the
body's muscle memory and the strength cultivated through a yang
practice, classes are designed to become progressively more
challenging while always holding the space for compassion. Islay
views each group class to be a personal practice that just happens
to be in a community setting. With this philosophy in mind, she
incorporates options and choice into her classes to facilitate an
equitable platform for students to celebrate personal agency while
making mindful decisions about their practice.
Islay received her 200hr teaching certification in 2017 and is
currently pursuing her 500hr certification. She has completed over
250 additional hours of additional training in Yin Yoga, anatomy
and mechanics, inclusivity, and anti-racism workshops. She
continues her yoga journey through education, reading, and
maintaining a personal practice.
