By the time I was 19 my weight was so high that scales wouldn’t go up enough to know how much I weighed. I would love to be able to say that was the scare I needed to take care of myself, but it wasn’t. That scare did not come until I was 32 and had already undergone Gastric Bypass surgery. Some would say the surgery was a success, having lost over 150 pounds, but I still had not dealt with what was going on, on the inside. After my 32nd birthday I checked in with my weight only to discover I had regained 50plus pounds of the 150. That was the wakeup call. I sat myself down, had some real talks with myself and joined a gym. Through diet and exercise I lost 125 pounds. During this time, I was lucky enough to take a few yoga classes. It is funny when you talk to yoga instructors oftentimes, they speak of how yoga came to them when they needed it the most. This is true for me. I had left my job of 13 years, moved out west and was struggling. I was so lost until I found Yoga. Yoga has allowed me to connect to my body while facing what is going on inside my mind. Through my practice of yoga, I have maintained my weight loss and my sanity, which can be a hurdle within itself. My goal is to show that the practice of yoga is accessible to all body types. It is time to let that shit go! Moriah is a Certified Alignment Based Yoga, Aerial Yoga.
