Who will you be in 2020?
One frustration many people come up against is the prospect of making personal change. This time of year, we like making new year’s resolutions, and often for a short time, our resolve to change goes well. But it’s hard to make it stick.
As the changes we tried to make unwind, we may begin to think “I can’t change!” We may even see it as a pattern: wanting to change, trying to change, failing to change. And we stop trying.
Buddha explained that the reason we feel stuck in patterns of behavior is because we grasp at our nature as fixed and unchanging. When we think that way, change is impossible to sustain. Through putting Buddha’s teachings into practice, and cultivating our view in meditation, we discover that change is possible! We can let go of the underlying causes of our negative mental habits.
Eventually we’ll discover that positive change, even profound change, is possible and that we can become the person we wish to be!
