According to Kristen Neff, “Self-compassion is the ability to turn understanding, acceptance, and love inward - toward ourselves.” Many people are able to extend compassion toward others but find it difficult to extend the same compassion toward themselves.
Research shows that self-compassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, coping with life challenges, lower levels of anxiety and depression, healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships.
This 4 week series combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion to enhance our capacity for emotional wellbeing.
We will practice using mindfulness to help us tune inward with kind awareness toward difficult experience (thoughts, emotions, and sensations). And incorporate self-compassion by bringing loving awareness to ourselves. Together, mindfulness and self-compassion comprise a state of warm, connected, presence during difficult moments in our life.
Self-compassion is an inner strength that enables us to be more fully human—to acknowledge our shortcomings, learn from them, and make necessary changes with an attitude of kindness and care. Self-compassion can be learned by anyone.
You will learn:
- how to stop being so hard on yourself
- how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
- how to encourage yourself rather than criticise yourself
- mindfulness and self-compassion practices for everyday life
- how to practice self-appreciation
This 4 week series includes discussion of specific topics, experiential exercises, meditations, small group interaction and home practices.

It is encouraged to have completed the Mindfulness FX Program, however, it is not a requirement.
