Waacking, also known as Whacking or Wacking, originated in the
1970s in gay clubs in California from the African American and
Latin population. Originally known as Punking as a reclamation of
the derogatory term for gay men at the time, Waacking is an
extremely free and expressive musical form of dance. This dance
style gave queer people of colour joy and a sense of escapism from
the socioeconomic climate and their realities as a QPOC. It’s
characterized by quick arm movements and styled poses and most
commonly danced to music of the 70s and 80s.
Minimum 1 year dance experience recommended
Footwear: Clean indoor runners.
