The 7 week course is a basic conversational skills course that introduces students to the foundations of the Spanish language and the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Students will build real-world communication skills through interactive and engaging activities. The course is designed for those who are interested in traveling to a Spanish-speaking country or who have a goal of achieving conversational-level Spanish. No prerequisites are required. All ages are welcome.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Communicate using basic Spanish vocabulary

• Introduce themselves and engage in simple everyday conversations

• Understand and use common expressions and essential grammar concepts

• Obtain resources that will guide them to continue progressing towards their Spanish-speaking goals

Sessions are held in the Behavioral Fitness studio every Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm from March 11- April 22nd

Instructor Bio: Regina Magat

Since high school, I have always been passionate about the Spanish language and culture. From AP classes to the college level, it was always an extracurricular of mine. At DVC, I was a part of the puente project which supports Mexican American and Latino students achieve academic success.Through this experience, I developed leadership skills and learned the value of cross-cultural communication. Once I transferred to UC Davis, I continued to take Spanish courses outside of my major in Human Development. I was inspired by one of my professors who previously lived in Spain. I knew that one day, I wanted to live that same dream.

I made the move to Madrid in 2023 where I experienced living the Spanish culture and studied the language first hand. I then attended Middlebury College and participated in the intensive 7-week spanish immersion program, an experience that strengthened my fluency and ultimately led me to pursuing my masters degree in Spanish.

As a non-native speaker, I understand the struggles that students face while learning a new language. My classes consist of interactive and engaging activities that will help students not only step out of their comfort zone, but also achieve their goals in becoming bilingual.
