Join Essential Yoga Studio's owner & instructor Sunni Nutt for a six-session series centered around the inspiration and embodiment of some of our favorite poses' mythological origin stories.
Each thought-provoking 2-hour session combines storytelling, embodied practice, and deep reflection to bring new meaning to familiar asanas (poses).
What to Expect in each Session:
- 30 minutes of settling in with mythological storytelling and practice preview
- 60 minutes of guided movement, breathwork, and meditation
- 15 minutes of restorative sound healing with crystal singing bowls
- 10-15 minutes of closing integration and discussion
The Six Sessions:
- Warriors of Light - Explore Virabhadrasana I, II & III (the Warrior poses) through the fierce devotion of Virabhadra - and Shiva's opportunity to embrace humility, surrender, and forgiveness
- The Great Flood - Embody Matsyasana and Navasana (Fish and Boat poses) while discovering Manu's tale of faith and the ripple effects of our actions
- The Leap of Faith - Journey into Hanumanasana (Monkey pose) through Hanuman's devotion to Shakti and Rama and his path to remembering his Divinity
- Desert Awakening - Find transformation in Ustrasana (Camel pose) guided by Vishwamitra's wilderness revelation and devotion to his own spiritual practice
- Abundance Embodied - Practice Gomukhasana (Cow Face pose) while honoring Kamendhenu, the divine cow of plenty, and embody our purpose from a place of boundaried love
- Cosmic Rest - Surrender into Balasana (Child's pose) through Makendaya's vision of universal destruction and rebirth
All bodies, ages, and experience levels welcome. Whether you're new to yoga or have practiced for years, these sessions are designed to supoprt your where you are. Modifications and variations are always offered to ensure every body can participate fully and safely.
Each participant will receive a comprehensive reference guide that grows with you throughout the series, creating a personal collection of mythology, poses, and insights to carry forward in your practice.

Join Essential's owner and instructor Sunni on New Year's morning from 9-1130a and begin the new year with a practice rooted in intention, clarity, and ritual. A Yoga Mala is a traditional sequence of 108 sun salutations used to honor moments of transition. New Year’s Day is one of the most meaningful times to complete this practice because it invites us to consciously close one chapter and step into another with presence and purpose.
The number 108 carries symbolic significance across yoga traditions. It reflects completeness and the connection between our individual journey and the larger universe, the Divine, or God. Moving through a Mala on January 1 becomes a way to acknowledge where we have been, release what we are ready to set down, and set the tone for how we want to move through the year ahead.
In this special celebration, we will complete one Mala together through four rounds of 27 sun salutations, each expressed through a different pathway:
- Traditional Sun Salutation A
- Supine Flow from the back body
- Chair Yoga variation
- Hands and Knees Flow
Between each round, you will have time to rest, hydrate, and reset. Coffee, tea, water, and light breakfast items will be available.
