One of our favorite holidays to celebrate at Hip Expressions, Dia de los muertos, originating in Mexico, is a rare holiday that honors both life and death - exchanging mourning for celebration. We honor our past loved ones by sharing a meal with them, offering them marigolds, sugar skulls, and favorite food and drinks.
Calaveras (skulls) are ubiquitous during Day of the Dead. The skulls are often drawn with a smile - as if to laugh at death itself. They take many forms such as sugar candies, clay decorations, and most memorable: face painting!
As this is to honor our past loved ones, we'll be setting up an altar so they can share in the celebration. Please bring pictures of your past loved ones, favorite objects, or other representations to add to the altar!
The show will be spectacular! Epic performances by local and
visiting dancers will honor the joy and reverence of this
Holiday.
