As the year turns, we gather in stillness to listen—listening to the body, the breath, the land that holds us, and the quiet wisdom carried within. This New Year’s Yin Yoga practice honours the understanding that beginnings are not rushed, but revealed over time.
Through long-held, supported postures and spacious silence, we create room to release what the body and spirit are ready to lay down. Guided reflection and intention-setting invite you to walk forward with awareness, humility, and care—choosing values over urgency, presence over pressure.
This practice is an offering of rest and remembrance, a gentle crossing into the year ahead, rooted in connection, gratitude, and respect for the natural rhythms that guide us.
Join us for 108 sun salutations to bring in the new year! Sun salutations will be offered in 4 blocks of 27. Participate in as many sun salutations as you choose!
Cost: Bring a non-perishable food item to benefit the Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank.
In our classes we will be learning practices that are focused on creativity, compassion, acceptance, and flexibility through mindful play, pranayama (breath), movement and relaxation.
Tailored to the needs of the class at their age level, the practices will look at fun ways to move and think in a group. This could include games, crafts, songs, and use of props (eg. parachutes, hula hoops, dancing ribbons, etc.)
We will also learn about different asanas (poses), their names, their purpose and how props (bolsters, blocks, etc.) can assist in supporting their bodies.
Class guidelines:
Practice Ahimsa:
- Respecting the studio (not colouring on the floor or breaking props)
- Non-harming to others or self (physically, verbally, etc)
- Respecting personal space and boundaries (partner poses, when someone says stop, you stop)
Practice Tapas:
- Keeping a calm environment (awareness of screaming when having fun)
- Lights stay on unless dimmer lights are required for an activity
- If you’d like to sit out of an activity, please find another activity that is not distracting to other students who are participating
- Cleaning spilled water bottles right away
- No socks
While creatively discovering the different aspects/elements of a physical and mental yoga practice, your pre-teen will gain a deeper sense of self, create connections, make friends, and build self confidence.
Each week will be centered around a different theme and focused with a meditation, time for personal reflection, group discussion as well as a balancing and fun yoga sequence. Activities may also include mindfulness, storytelling, arts + crafts, breathing exercises, group games, journalling, singing, music, movement and more!
No experience is necessary. Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in and don't forget the water!
