Know Your Rights Training at Hugger Mugger
As ICE activity increases across North Carolina — including reports of people being pulled off the streets — our community is feeling fear, stress, and uncertainty. At Sanford Yoga & Community Center, we believe that community care is a form of protection and that knowledge is a powerful tool for resilience.
Join us for an Emergency Know Your Rights Training to learn what to do if you, a loved one, or a community member encounters ICE. This gathering will be grounding, empowering, and rooted in the belief that we keep each other safe.
In this training, we will cover:
-
What to do during an ICE encounter
-
What bystanders should do (and should not do)
-
How to safely film ICE interactions
-
What to say — and what not to say
-
The rights every person has, regardless of immigration status
-
How to support neighbors who may be too afraid to leave their homes
-
Community safety practices like calling out “¡La Migra!” when ICE is suspected nearby
-
How to check on families, share resources, and ensure people have groceries, medications, and essentials
-
Where to find trusted legal support, reporting tools, and updated ICE activity information
This is not a yoga class — though it is grounded in the same values of breath, courage, and collective care that guide everything we do. We will create space for calm, clarity, and solidarity so you can leave feeling informed, supported, and ready to protect yourself and your community.
This event is FREE or you can chose to donate $10 at checkout to help support our operations. Registration is NOT required to attend. But if you do register, you will be automatically added to our email list for other important trainings/updates.
A detail-oriented exploration where anyone new to yoga can get an introductory feel for what it is like to move, breathe, and be on a yoga mat.
This class is designed to help you investigate the benefits of yoga while you are gaining some practical knowledge of the foundational aspects of what it means to have a yoga practice.
These workshops are designed to build a general knowledge base for each participant that will help determine how yoga and its principles support you.
We have all the equipment you will need in the studio. Therefore, a water bottle and clothes you can move comfortably in are all you will need.
This is also a great time to refresh your knowledge even if you're not a beginner!
