Want to stand on your hands? In this 4-week series, we'll work on drills to help you along your journey to handstand and give you the skills to safely practice on your own.
Week 1: Introduction to handstand methodology
and form. We'll build strength and good foundations for our
handstand practice.
(Plan: wrist and shoulder strengthening exercises,
floor drills, across-the-floor drills, partner drills, wall drills
if accessible)
Week 2: The wall is your friend. We'll review
using the wall to assist us in building strength, alignment, and
engagement.
(Plan: back-to-wall drills, belly-to-wall drills, endurance
holds, balance exercises)
Week 3: Help, I'm falling! The scariest part of
doing a freestanding handstand is not knowing how to come down
safely. We'll learn exits to give us the confidence to practice
handstands without the wall.
(Plan: roll outs, cartwheel, twist out)
Week 4: Refining our entry. We'll work on being
more precise and controlled kicking up into handstand and other
entries.
(Plan: partner spotting, kicking up, tuck and straddle up if
accessible)
Please note that missed sessions cannot be replaced with other classes or events.
