This course is available to women and their babies who have had their 6 week postnatal checkup and are given the go -ahead to begin gentle exercise. You can, of course, come along without your baby if you have someone to look after them.
Pilates is great for strengthening your core and helping to regain your pre-pregnancy abdominal strength. Most importantly, we will be focussing on strengthening the pelvic floor and lower abdominals. You will work up slowly and safely.
It is also good for your mental health and general well-being. An opportunity to leave the house with or without your baby and meet other women in the same situation.
Sometimes you will get little done, especially if babies need feeding, but you will still be able to gain knowledge of the moves and practice later at home. It is also a great opportunity to bond with your baby and make connections with other new mums. Often, the postnatal classes are a woman’s first insight into this practice.
Based on the beginner series from the Bihar School of Yoga, this beginners course will cover the basics of moving with awareness, an introduction to asana, breathwork, meditation and the benefits. Building up to a yogic and asana sequence and that can be part of a regular yoga routine for you to do at home. We will include an introduction to yogic terms and their meaning, whilst weaving in bits of neuroscience, grounding and responding to the needs of the class participants. For any age and stage of life, this class aims to gently stretch, relax and inspire you as you begin or continue your yoga journey.
