Brown Girl's Breathing is a 3-part breathwork session that provides safe spaces for women of color to release, destress, and reconnect with their authentic selves through the power of breathing. We often endured afflictions from our families, our communities, and different world systems. This is an opportune time to be held and supported in a community to encourage healing.
Breath Pattern: This group breathwork session will use a 2-part active pranayama breath. No experience is needed to participate in this 60-minute group breathing session. There will be a brief check-in and setup before the session, as well as an integration period at the end of the session.
How Breathwork May Impact You: dry mouth, coughing, tingling, vibrations or buzzing, involuntary bodily movements, changes in body temperature, tetany (involuntary curling of hands or feet and jaw tightness), dizziness, nausea, yawning, sleepiness, sexual arousal, and release of emotions (tears, laughter, etc), shifts in consciousness, and reminder of traumatic memories.
Warning: This breathing pattern is not recommended for anyone with the following conditions unless controlled under medical supervision or clearance: pregnancy, seizures/seizure disorders, cardiovascular issues, high blood pressure, brain injury, and recent surgery or serious injuries. An alternative breathing pattern will be provided for all to participate.
When: Tuesday, November 4th, 11th, and 18th
Cost: $35 per session
Where: In-person and virtual, the facilitator reserves the right to host sessions virtually only due to unforeseen circumstances
Time: 5:00-6:00 pm

This 60-minute breathwork-based support group is open to individuals pursuing recovery from substance use disorders, trauma, mental health challenges—as well as their loved ones, including family and friends. While The Recovery Healing Circle respects participants' confidentiality, it is not an anonymous program and does not follow traditional 12-step models. The Circle believes in advocacy over anonymity. Instead of allowing our hurts and shortcomings to reside in darkness and terrorize us, we speak openly about recovery with the aim of dismantling the silence, shame, and stigma that often surround trauma and addiction.
Consider the Recovery Healing Circle as either a complement to or an alternative for traditional recovery programs, which can help positively shift the public perceptions about recovery and those affected by addiction. A central focus of our discussions is the role shame and societal stigma play in perpetuating cycles of relapse and recidivism. We believe recovery is possible-storytelling is an instrumental tool in that process. By bringing recovery into the public conversation, we challenge the criminalization and judgment of people living with substance use disorders. That’s why we choose not to be anonymous.
