Functional Patterns has been a pivotal part of my journey the
last few years toward a healthier life with less chronic pain. I’m
immensely grateful for the system and the practitioners who I’ve
trained with and learned from along the way.
In high school during sports seasons I always seemed to be rolling
my right ankle, and was constantly pushing through shoulder or knee
pain. This pattern progressed in college and I developed intense
lower back pain and sciatica. I adapted my activities to endurance
sports and started competing in triathlons. I continued
accumulating minor injuries and developing new compensation
By my mid twenties I had had two spine surgeries, many cervical and
lumbar steroid injections, and was still in a lot of chronic pain.
For years I worked with traditional physical therapists,
acupuncturists, and chiropractors looking for a way back to an
active lifestyle. I found some incremental relief, functioning with
a more manageable level of pain in my day to day, though I was
nowhere close to where I wanted to be.
I was still a mess when I started doing Functional Patterns. The
initial concepts, while feeling completely alien, made a shocking
amount of intuitive sense. By rewiring your body to be more
connected, Functional Patterns focuses on teaching you to get
better at the core movements the human body evolved to do. Over
time, I compensated less as my dysfunctions subsided and I began to
move better with more integrity and less pain.
I got certified in the Functional Patterns system to further my own
passion and learn how to help others move and feel
