The Northwood Club

I have always been an ‘outdoorsy’ kind of guy. Growing up I played soccer, cross country mountain biked, played recreational tennis and swam during the summers. During winters I would ski, snowshoe and play hockey occasionally. When I left Collingwood for University in Ottawa I quickly began to miss the luxury of throwing a frisbee around and swimming by sunset point or biking up on top of the Niagara Escarpment. That in conjunction with shifting my attention from physical activity towards a Bachelor of Business in Commerce did not agree with me, and before the end of the first semester at the University of Carleton I dropped out and returned to Collingwood. Once I returned it came quite apparent to my parents that I needed to set some goals. Within a couple weeks they bought me a ticket for Grand Prairie, Alberta, where I was to work for a company called Red Rock Camps as a dish washer and later on as a second cook. Although I’m not a fan of the term “journey of self-discovery”, that is exactly what the next three years of my life were to me. After a year catering in oil camps in Timbuctoo I returned to the Collingwood area and began working landscaping. Towards the end of my last year there I would always return to the thought of becoming some form of physical health care specialist; either a chiropractor or a physio. During this time I also began to research how to build muscle while maintaining proper posture and flexibility. That fall I enrolled in the Fitness and Health Promotion course at Humber College, earned a diploma and went straight into third year university at the University of GuelphHumber. All the while I continued to immerse myself in strength and mobility training. After this year (my final year) of school I hope to attend physiotherapy or chiropractic school. Keeping this in mind, one could imagine I value the ability to move well and pain-free as a result of the hard work dedicated in the gym while also being proactive in the maintenance the human body needs. Feel free to say hi to me anytime you see me, chances are I’ll be on the ground rolling out some sore, hard worked muscle!
