I am thrilled with my first session at Whole Living Pilates. The trainer was amazing and I am looking forward to more time in the studio.
Hi! My name is Tammy Awtry and I am excited to explore classical Pilates with you at Whole Living Pilates. I love watching students improve their movement, get stronger, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment as they progress.
My journey with Pilates began while I was in graduate school. I fell in love with a variety of fitness classes, as I sought balance in my life between study, work, and taking care of my body. I became an ACE-certified fitness instructor in 2000, and as I grew more fascinated with how the body works and why it moves the way it does, I earned certifications as a NASM-certified personal trainer and yoga instructor, as well as numerous other specialty fitness certifications.
In 2002 I took my first Pilates class which opened my eyes to a better way to train both my body and mind. Though I continued to teach other fitness classes, my passion for Pilates grew. In 2003 I became an IMX Certified Pilates Instructor in floor work and a Power House Pilates reformer instructor. However, I found myself drawn to the classical method of Pilates and began my training with Power Pilates in 2005. During this time I graduated from graduate school and had two of my three children. Throughout this stressful time, Pilates brought balance to my life. I practiced Pilates during all of my pregnancies and the training resulted in easier deliveries and shorter recovery times.
After completing my initial classical training, our family moved from Washington, D.C. to Colorado Springs. In 2012 I completed over 300 more hours of training and was awarded my Power Pilates Comprehensive Certification. In addition, I also became a Certified Pilates Teacher with Pilates Method Alliance in 2016.
Sharing Pilates with others is exciting and fulfilling for me as practicing it continues to bring balance to my own life. I look forward to seeing you in the studio!
