Sarah’s class is remarkable in that my body always feels rejuvenated afterward. All the joint stiffness and muscle soreness is gone, and I feel more flexible and energetic. I look forward to this class each week. Sarah’s coaching and commentary is always appreciated; making the class feel more like an in-person class than a video. I am also happy that she doesn’t seem to mind when my two-year-old workout buddy decides to participate occasionally.
Originally from Japan, Makiko started dancing when she was 5
years old, and participated in the Asia Pacific Ballet Competition
& the All Japan Ballet Competition when she was a teenager.
After finishing high school she entered the Shiki Theatrical
Company's Acting School (the largest musical company in Japan). In
1997 she graduated from that school and she performed in musicals
such as Phantom of the Opera (over 350 stages in Tokyo &
Nagoya), Musical Hans Christian Andersen (1998 in Osaka), and the
Japanese ordinal musical Lee Kou Ran (1997 in Tokyo & Osaka).
She moved to the United States in 2000, and in 2001 she joined
Michael Mao Dance in NYC. She performed the Chinese version of the
Nutcracker, called Firecracker, with Michael Mao . In 2004 she
began her Pilates training at Pilates on Fifth, and in November of
that year she got her full certification. She went on to take
Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis Courses with Sebastian Plettenberg in
2005. Makiko is one of the PAI Certifying Instructors.
