Yoga Nidra is the Yogic Way of Sleep or 'Psychic sleep'. It is a traditional yogic technique of deep relaxation, usually practiced while lying on the back.
Yoga Nidra is a technique for getting rid of everyday stress
and finding inner peace and relaxation.
In Yoga Nidra, awareness lies between sleep and wakefulness -
instructions given in this state successfully eliminate unwanted
habits and tendencies.
As a result of physical, emotional, or mental tension, you
accumulate stress in your muscular, emotional, and mental systems.
By systematically practicing yoga nidra, this triple tension is
progressively reduced.
Muscle tension is related to the body,
nervous system, and endocrine imbalance. They are easily removed by
the deep physical relaxation achieved in the state of Yoga
Nidra.
We usually suppress emotional tensions
because we are not able to recognize them, and the tension that
accompanies them is closed in deeper layers. It is impossible to
relax these tensions with ordinary sleep and relaxation, but they
require a method by which the entire emotional structure of the
mind manages to calm down.
Mental tensions are the result of strenuous
mental activity. The mind is a vortex of fantasy, confusion and
oscillation. Experiences that our consciousness registers during
life accumulate in the mental sphere. When we are sad, angry or
irritable, We most often attribute our state of mind to superficial
reasons, while the real cause of the changed behavior lies in
accumulated tensions on the mental level. Yoga Nidra is a
relaxation skill that allows us to dive deep into the world of the
subconscious, release and relax mental tension and establish
harmony in all aspects of our being.
The complete systematic relaxation of yoga nidra corresponds
to hours of ordinary, unconscious sleep. One hour of yoga nidra is
as restful as four hours of conventional sleep.
