In this workshop, Physical Therapist Moira Fisher will discuss the pelvic floor issues that women face at different points of thier lives. She will help you understand the difference between a tight or weak pelvic floor and show you exercises to help improve your symptoms and quality of life. She will discuss the technology and use of the pelvic floor chair and help you determine if it is a treatment option for you.
Signs of a tight pelvic floor:
• Difficulty initiating the stream with urination
• Dribbling after peeing, feeling like you have to pee again
immediately after going, or leaking urine (sometimes)
• Constipation
• Pain
with penetration or tampon insertion
• Pain or
throbbing during or after intercourse
• Vulvar
(external pelvic floor) burning pain
• Increased UTI risk or history of repeated UTI’s
• Feeling
like you can’t relax your pelvic floor
• Chronic
abdominal clenching or pain
• Difficulty taking a full breath in (shallow breathing
pattern)
• SI joint pain, tailbone (coccyx)
pain and/or hip pain
• Stress,
fear, and anxiety also can contribute to pelvic floor over
activity
Signs of a weak pelvic floor:
• Difficulty feeling the desired rise in the pelvic floor upon
attempts to contract/perform a
Kegel
• Leaking
urine or leaking gas
• Decreased sensation during intercourse or inability to
orgasm
• You have
a very flat butt – strong glutes are essential for healthy pelvic
floor
• Clenching butt muscles, inner thigh muscles, or abdominal
muscles instead of your pelvic floor upon attempts to
contrac
