Frankie H.Description
A strong core connects your upper and lower body, facilitating nearly every movement you make. Beyond achieving a sleek appearance, a stable core is essential for overall health, athletic performance, and maintaining independence as you age.
What does this mean? Let’s break it down:
Better Posture
Reduced Back Pain
Improved Balance & Stability
Enhanced Athletic Performance
Injury Prevention
Ease in Performing Daily Tasks
Better Breathing & Digestion
Now remember, your core isn’t just your abs! And certainly not just your “six pack” which is only one of your four abs. It is a complex group of muscles, including those in your hips, pelvis, lower back, and glutes.
In my new workshop, “Diving into Your Deep Core”, I will be focusing on a very special aspect of the core called the deep front line. Here we find the lesser known core stabilizers such as the psoas major, iliacus and quadratus lumborum. We’ll also be exploring the pelvic floor, the diaphragm and adductors. Since this deep aspect of our core reaches downward into our lower legs and feet and upward into our neck and jaw, even our tongue, we’ll play with poses focusing on balance, breath, strength, mobility and posture.
I will be teaching a sequence for dynamic stabilization which means that we aren’t “holding our stomach in” or gripping our muscles unnecessarily. Instead, we are intelligently working with the rhythms of our body, increasing strength and flexibility as needed.
Another aspect of this workshop will be returning to building tone in the vagus nerve, which was a focus of my December workshop “Peace, Joy & Yoga”. Our diaphragm and psoas, part of the deep core, are the “first responders of our body and can hold tension patterns from trauma or stress. Learning to release this grip will also allow us to let go of compensating patterns in other areas of our body.
