Description
With Michele Tampa-Hoag & Sara Cain-da Costa
Yoga Alliance CEU's or RYS300
Generally, when we think of the asana practice, we tend to think of the strength and flexibility benefits provided by the various forms of “active” (i.e. Vinyasa) practices. These practices are considered yang. Just as daylight is balanced by night, a well-balanced asana practice should embrace both the yin and yang aspects of the asanas.
This module provides an understanding of Yin Yoga, a practice
designed to provide nourishment and balance to the body’s deep
tissues (fascia), improved energy flow (Qi), and the ability to
cultivate a calm and peaceful mind. Yin as a practice can increase
mobility and reduce stress levels which can benefit individuals who
have chronic illnesses and/or disabilities, as well as for athletes
looking to avoid injury and athletic “burn out”. Our intention for
including this topic is so that it give the advanced yoga
instructor more tools to weave into a flow practice with their
clients in either a group or private setting. Yin Yoga poses offer
alternative Asana options like in Pigeon vs Sleeping Swan version
that can be used for any body but even more so for special
populations.
