Description
Jua Hua (White Chrysanthemum)
Chrysanthemum morifolium
Country of Origin: China
Herbal Energetics:
For centuries, Chrysanthemum morifolium, a perennial member of the Asteraceae (Sunflower) family, has been valued for its beneficial properties as well as its beauty. Chrysanthemum flowers contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants needed for good health and well-being. The flowers are most popular as a tea, either drunk alone, or blended with botanicals.
Traditional Chinese Medicine uses chrysanthemum in much the same way western folk herbalists use chamomile. In TCM, chrysanthemum is used: to support healthy digestion; as a gentle nervine; for its lubricating, yin-nourishing effects; to disperse wind; to clear heat; to soothe the liver. Both herbs have similar uses for calming indigestion and the spirit. In China the flower can also be found in carbonated sodas or combined with licorice root. While typically used as an infusion, Chrysanthemum can also be powdered and blended into homemade facemasks, cleansers, toners, and various other skin care products.
White blossom tea is amongst the most delicate and nuanced herbal teas China has to offer. Lighter and sweeter in flavor than the yellow chrysanthemum, white chrysanthemum flowers also pair well with the subtlety of green teas.
Precautions:
Persons highly sensitive to ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) may be sensitive to chrysanthemum. We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, allergic or on any medications.
