Description
Belly dancing is a fun way to move your body and some energy. It is suitable for all body types and fitness levels because it works with the body instead of against it. Belly dance is primarily a torso-driven dance, with an emphasis on refined isolations as well as circular and articulated motions of both the shoulders and hips. The nature of belly dance movements naturally develops core strength, which helps support your spine and pelvis and promotes good posture. While belly dance strengthens and tones abdominal muscles, thighs, calves, hips, glutes, back, and arms, it is also low impact which makes it easy on your joints.
There are many forms of belly dance, but in this session, we will focus on the Egyptian style and alternate between fast and slow rhythms. When the rhythm of dance is faster, the movements help improve cardiovascular health. When the rhythm of dance is slower, the movements help develop better muscle control and increase body awareness. Belly dance offers other benefits including stress and tension relief in the body, a feeling of empowerment, and boosted self-esteem. Belly dancing allows you to feel better connected to yourself and others. So come join us and get lost in the beauty of the music and art form of belly dancing!
Special Instructions
Please come dressed comfortably and prepared to move. You will not need your yoga mat but will want to be prepared with bare feet or socks.
If you have hip scarves, bring them. You may also want to bring a long and thin rectangular fabric, veil, scarf, or shawl (long enough to hold in hands with arms stretched out to sides and thin enough to float a little when waved).
No refunds will be provided. Instead, if you are unable to attend, your credit will be applied to a future event at the studio.
