What is yin yoga? Yin yoga is a quiet, contemplative practice. There are three aspects of yin yoga. Finding the edge of you stretch without straining. (no pain) Allowing yourself to find stillness both in the physical pose and in the mind. (A wonderful way to continue your meditation practice.) And to hold to pose, for up to three to five minutes depending on the pose. These poses target the fascia and allow for a deep stretch.
What is restorative yoga? With the use of props, restorative yoga allows you to take many postures fully supported. The objective is to relax and allow the softening to take you into the asana. Poses are typically held longer, upwards to ten minutes.
The combination of the two allows the mind and body to fully decompress. To get out of the sympathetic nervous system and into the parathimpic nervous system. This practice is wonderful in and of itself, however, it’s a practice that serves you off the mat as well.
